Mission Statement

Bachelor in Ecotrophology

Mission statement of the bachelor's degree program

Ecotrophology (household and nutrition science) is an interdisciplinary degree program. It addresses natural, engineering, economic and social science content that serves consumers at the interface between the economic, social and political environment surrounding them. The focus is on linking the consumer with food businesses as well as with businesses providing support services regarding households.

Ecotrophology is needed

  • in companies that produce goods for end consumers (in particular food producers). Ecotrophologists work on products that correspond to consumer requirements (related to senses, hygiene, technology, nutrition physiology and the economy);
  • to empower consumers to make competent decisions in their everyday actions. This specifically applies to decisions about how to spend time and money as well as to dietary behavior.

The importance of Ecotrophology is increasing due to the globalization of markets – especially food markets – the increase in nutrition-related diseases in the population and the growing demand for household-related services. In contrast to degree programs in scientific, engineering, economic and social science fields, the strength of the degree program in Ecotrophology lies in its interdisciplinary approach to subject content. An Ecotrophologist is able to look at food from both the production side and the consumer side. Ecotrophologists are mainly employed at the interface between producer and consumer.

In the bachelor's degree program, students will acquire the competence to advise end consumers on nutrition and household issues as well as take on middle management tasks in companies in the household or food industry.

The completion of the program leads to the academic degree of Bachelor of Science.

The degree program in Ecotrophology allows students to gain an international orientation. You can take a foreign language as an additional module. International aspects are included in most of our modules. However, a semester abroad is not mandatory.
