Why Business Law? As part of my decision-making process between a traditional law degree and the business studies degree, my I became aware of the degree program in Business Law while doing online research. The combination of both degree programs I was interested in was the ideal solution for me. At Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, I particularly liked the smaller study groups allowing for close contact between students and lecturers and therefore intensive supervision. In addition, I appreciated the mandatory internships, which allowed me to visualize my career prospects at an early stage. I also liked the flexibility of the degree program, which enabled me, with the right amount of self-discipline, to complete my degree early. Since the successful completion of my master's thesis, which focused on insolvency law, I have been working in insolvency law. In addition to the final processing of regular insolvency proceedings, I mainly work on the preparation and review of proceeding conclusions. I have never lost my connections to the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Since 2012, I have been a temporary lecturer in the degree program in Business Law, teaching, among other things, insolvency law.

Graduating class: 2001

Degree: "Diplom", specialization in banking and insurance

Current position: Analyst, Deutsche Bundesbank, Frankfurt am Main

Professional background:

My first job was in an insolvency law firm. After that I worked in the legal department of a chamber of commerce and industry. For many years I have been working in banking and financial supervision for Deutsche Bundesbank, supervising banks and financial service providers.

About the degree program:

I particularly appreciated the conveyance of practical knowledge. Our banking law professor enjoyed telling anecdotes from his professional life. I have really positive memories of this ;o) Anyone who has not gone through any training before studying (like me) simply cannot imagine certain situations. Therefore, the many examples and descriptions were very helpful.

What I would like to share: I would advise any prospective student to either complete vocational training before university or complete at least one internship of several months. Practical experience will definitely be a plus for your future employer, especially experience abroad. If you want to enter the world of finance, you need business English and knowledge of many oversight regulations that have to be followed.

Degree Program: Business Law (“Diplom” 1st Year 1997)

What did you like most about it? The very first year of the degree program in Business Law was sometimes a bit chaotic. We felt a little bit like “guinea pigs”. But that was also a good as we could learn about more subjects than the later generations. At that time, we could choose from 3 specializations: Labor Law & Human Resources, Banking & Insurance, International Trade. I chose all 3. I always wanted to be a generalist and have not regretted it to this day. I later also studied at the universities of Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken and Speyer. The foundations, which I still fall back on today - in addition to previous vocational training -, were laid in Bernburg. What I liked most about studying in Bernburg, compared to the other universities, was the much more personal atmosphere, the small groups and the feeling of community in the degree program. As a result, in the following years and to this day, we have met up again and again in Bernburg-Strenzfeld for the University Information Day.

Degree: Diplom-Wirtschaftsjurist (university of applied sciences) in 2004

Current position: Professor of Business Law, Anhalt University

Further career: After graduating in Business Law, I studied at Georgetown University, Washington (USA) and at the University of Iowa, Iowa City (USA) on a Fulbright Scholarship. I also acquired a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree there. Back in Germany, I worked for the major law firm Jones Day in Frankfurt a. M. and for GISA GmbH in Halle, among others. In 2013, I completed my doctorate at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg under Prof. Dr. Wolfhard Kohte (Chair of Civil Law, German and European Labor, Corporate and Social Law). A few years ago, I returned to Anhalt University as a professor of Business Law.

About the degree program: Since I am now working at Anhalt University, I can, of course, only find words of praise ;-). But seriously: From a technical point of view, the degree program with its legal, business management and economic content was exciting and always practice-oriented. A later employer once told me that he had hired me precisely because of my practical experience and preferred me to a university lawyer because of my focus on business law.At least as important as this professional quality, however, is the whole package. Studying in Bernburg allowed me to stand on my own two feet, meet new people, make friends that I still have today, enjoy and help shape student life, go on excursions at home and abroad, and so on.

Graduating class: 2001

Degree: Diplom Wirtschaftsjurist (FH), majoring in banking and insurance Current position: Group Manager Treasury

Company: DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale, Frankfurt am Main

Professional background: Immediately after graduation, I started a trainee program in 2002. Since 2007 I have been a group manager with ever-changing responsibilities and employees

Why did I choose the Business Law program?

The combination of legal and business education is ideal for my everyday work, as it combines the important subject areas. Depending on your future career, you can shift your focus more towards business administration or law. Especially in small and medium-sized companies, this interface knowledge and the “thinking” of the other specialist area is essential. Although I am working at a larger bank / in a corporate group, I still benefit from my experiences from back then.

What do I appreciate about Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and the Bernburg Campus? Compared to a large university, I liked the “family” character of the Bernburg Campus and the good interaction with the professors. And the practical orientation is worth its weight in gold, especially if (like me) you haven't done any vocational training before. This is the only way for a student to get a feeling and a better understanding of how theory taught in the program can be applied in a professional setting. And, of course, I associate Anhalt University and Bernburg above all with the fact that I met my wife during my program.

Why did I choose the Business Law program?

I chose the degree program Business Law because it perfectly combines legal and business knowledge. The decisive factor in my decision-making process was the future career opportunities. Due to the interdisciplinary education, the degree program Business Law offers a wide selection of industries and employers. During my vocational training, I was particularly interested in the legal requirements of a bank. Business Law turned out to be the best degree program for me.

About the degree program:

I can wholeheartedly recommend the degree program Business Law at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. I especially liked the practical orientation of the program and the helpfulness of the lecturers. The lecturers were always available for the students and a spontaneous exchange of professional ideas was always possible. A positive aspect is the mobility semester, in which, among other things, you can complete an internship. Through the internship, I was able to gain valuable practical experience and apply my acquired theoretical knowledge at an early stage. This is how I got to know my current employer and received a permanent employment contract following the internship.

I was one of the first students in the degree program Business Law. Of course, not everything worked 100% from the beginning. The advantage was that we started with 30 students and we were a great group. I still enjoy remembering the lectures of Dr. Braun or Prof. Küchenhoff in the field of labor law. Due to their lively presentation style, I was able to take comprehensive knowledge with me on into professional practice, which still accompanies me today.

I experience the diversity in the field of labor law every day in my job as a human resources manager. I couldn't imagine any other job for myself.
