Statistics consulting and data analysis

In cooperation with Prof. Dr. Achim Wübker (FB 2), the Graduate Academy offers statistical consulting both inside and outside Anhalt University. We can help

  • in the conception and implementation of studies,
  • in the planning of sampling and experiments, data acquisition and data quality assurance,
  • in the selection and use of appropriate analytical methods,
  • in the interpretation and presentation of the research results.


This consultation can be used by all scientists of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Support is provided in the form of an oral consultation.

In addition, companies from the region can contact us to discuss statistical issues. Ideally, the consultation could even result in cooperation between Anhalt University and the company in the form of a joint publication, internship or similar.

In order to be able to offer the best possible advice, we ask you to prepare well for the consultation and to register in good time. Please also take advantage of the Graduate Academy's statistical services. Statistical courses are held regularly within the framework of interdisciplinary workshops.

How can you prepare for the consultation?

  • When should the consultation take place?

    In the best case, you come to our advice already in the planning phase. Here, for example, questions about data collection can be clarified, which simplify the later evaluation or make it possible. If you have only heard of the consulting offer while you are in the middle of a mess, it is not too late!

  • What should you bring to the consultation?

    You should be able to formulate your specific questions, which are to be answered with the investigation. Often this is not so easy. The following questions should support you:

    • What do you want to find out?
    • Which questions do you want to examine primarily, which are only secondary questions?
    • What are the corresponding target variables? What influence variables are there?
    • Do you already have data that allow you to answer the question? If so, are they accessible and can they also be used from a legal point of view? If not: How do I efficiently collect the data that allow me to deal with the problem in a targeted manner (keyword: design of experiments)?


    If you are in the planning phase, you should provide the following information

    • to set up the experiment,
    • to the measuring ranges,
    • to the maximum sample size,
    • at maximum cost
    • and the accuracy with which your question is to be answered.

  • How should I prepare the data record?

    To analyze the data, the data must be available in a suitable format (e.g. Microsoft Excel format (*.xls), ASCII format (*.txt) with column separation).

    • Each characteristic (variable) shall be listed in a separate column and given a name. The name of the characteristic shall appear in the first row of the column and the observations in the following rows.
    • The description of the characteristics must fit in one row at a time.
    • Different characteristics must have different names.
    • Identical characteristic values must always be coded in the same way. The use of characters or character strings is recommended for coding nominal characteristics.
    • If values are missing, leave the corresponding cells (fields) empty (no entry).
    • Please do not write comments, explanations or your own calculations in the table itself.
    • Spaces are to be avoided.

    Your data will of course be treated confidentially by us!

How does the consultation work?

  • First appointment

    After registering using our online form, we will arrange a first appointment for you. During this meeting we will clarify in detail the need for advice and ask you the following questions (see above!):

    • What do you want to find out?
    • Which questions do you want to examine primarily, which are only secondary questions?
    • What are the corresponding target variables? Which influence variables exist?
    • Do you already have data that allow you to answer the question? If so, are they accessible and can they also be used from a legal point of view? If not: How do I efficiently collect the data that allow me to deal with the problem in a targeted manner (keyword: design of experiments)?



  • Follow-up date(s)

    We will then arrange a follow-up appointment(s) to get a little closer to solving your problem.
