Studying without borders. Vote for europe! – Joint Initiative of the HRK and the DSW
The German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and the German Student Union (DSW) are calling all students entitled to vote to participate in the election to the European Parliament on 26 May 2019. The initiative "Study without borders. Choose Europe! "Is supported nationwide by universities and Studentenwerk in order to point out the importance of political participation.
HRK and DSW are concerned about the growing influence of populist and nationalist forces across Europe. At the same time, for most young adults, the only thing that seems unthinkable is peaceful, borderless Europe. Friendly relationships across borders and unrestricted mobility in studies and work are a matter of course for her. The Brexit referendum in 2016, in which comparatively few British students have participated, has shown that the active opinion on Europe is nevertheless or even in doubt for the younger generation.
The action of the German Rectors' Conference and the German Student Union aims to make students aware that their vote is important. The organizers have asked universities and student organizations for their support and called for local and regional action.
International cooperation is fundamental for students, scientists and administrations. It is indispensable for the performance of the universities. This guideline is recorded both in the international strategy of the HRK and in the strategy of the Federal Government for the internationalization of education, science and research. Cooperation with European neighbors and partners is particularly close. The EU program Erasmus + promotes student mobility and transnational partnerships and cooperation.
Officially, HRK President Prof. dr. Peter-André Alt the initiative on 12 March 2019 in the framework of the HRK Senate in Berlin at the same time as the President of the DSW, Prof. Dr. med. Rolf-Dieter Postlep.
