Academic Calendar & Teaching

  • How ist the winter semester 2021/22 structured? (Last updated: November 23, 2021)

In the winter semester 2021/22 courses at Anhalt University are conducted as on-campus/in-person classes. This does not apply to courses in English-taught master's degree programs. As a rule, courses in these degree programs are offered as online and/or hybrid courses. The decision concerning the type of instruction applied in the English-taught master-level programs will be made by the respective department.

If more than 50% of the seats/places in lecture and teaching rooms are occupied, courses will preferably be run as hybrid courses (i.e, in-person plus online). Classes in career-integrated degree programs are to be run as either hybrid or online classes. Students will be informed about any decisions by the department.

Between December 20 to December 22, 2021 all classes will exclusively be run as online classes.

The framework plan for teaching and examination regulations (last revised: November 23, 2021) provides an overview of the regulations that apply at the university during the winter semester 2021/22.

In the event of a deterioration of the coronavirus pandemic situation, the university management shall make amendments to this directive. Changes affecting university operations ordered by a public health authority (Gesundheitsamt) or the responsible Saxony-Anhalt state ministry will be announced by the university management.

    ---

Attending in-person classes and examinations at Anhalt University requires one of the following:

    • preferably digital or, alternatively, written proof of full vaccination protection against the SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus). People are considered fully vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus) 14 days after receiving their last shot required for a complete vaccination schedule as recommended by the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) at the Robert Koch Institute, or when possessing an official verification for international students, issued by the International Office of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, stating that they have been fully vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus) in their home country - please use this form to apply for such rerseve documentation - or
    • upon presentation of proof of having recovered from a SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus) infection. Evidence of recovery requires a positive PCR test for the SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus), which was carried out at least 1 month but no longer than 6 months before the event/class, or
    • providing proof of a negative test result for the SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus). The following tests are accepted: A written or electronic certificate proving a laboratory diagnosis using nucleic acid detection (PCR, PoC-PCR or other methods of nucleic acid amplification technique), or a written or electronic certificate of a PoC-antigen test (rapid test) carried out no more than 24 hours prior to the event/class. Self-tests and tests from non-certified providers, such as Test Express, will not be accepted. The teaching staff are entitled to expel persons without a certified test.

Everyone participating in classes is recommended to undertake a coronavirus test (self test) twice a week, regardless of the before mentioned regulations.

Interested persons may be tested for the SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus) on Anhalt University’s campuses. Tests will be carried out by external providers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Details can be found here. On the other days, a test certificate in accordance is to be obtained independently by participants of classes, for example in test centers: list of test centers in Bernburg, Dessau and Köthen (last updated: October 20, 2021).

In addition, interested persons have the opportunity to get vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus) at the university's campus locations. The exact vaccination dates are published on this webpage.

To ease verification of vaccination status, a wristband is available at designated University locations. Wearing such a wristband is voluntary and is designed to expedite verification of vaccination status.

Before the start of a class, teaching staff will ask all persons who do not wear a wristband to show proof of their vaccination or test status. In addition, the dean, the head of the respective division or his/her appointed representative, as well as Anhalt University's president, are entitled to - randomly and without cause - insist students and teaching staff show their proof of vaccination/recovery/negative test result during classes. Violations of the obligation to provide proof or false information will be considered a violation of house rules and may result in being banned from the premises.

    ---

Degree programs taught in English hold their classes in both forms, simultaneously as classes held on-campus and as online classes. International students who have been able to enter Germany will take on-campus classes when those are offered. International students who are unable to enter Germany can follow their courses online. Please inform your degree program advisor (Studienfachberater) if you are participating online. If your visa is issued and entry is granted during the semester, switching from online to on-campus classes is possible without any problems.

Please note that when entering Germany from some countries a visa is required. We may be able to postpone your admission to a subsequent semester (e. g. summer semester 2022) and will consult with you if you are unable to enter the Federal Republic of Germany or if personal circumstances stand in the way of starting your studies at Anhalt University. Please contact us if you are having problems starting your studies and please do not simply cancel your application.

Please use our contact form to inform our International Office regarding your arrival. For additional queries related to entering Germany, please contact the International Office at internationaloffice(at)hs-anhalt.de. For queries related to your application or enrollment, please contact our Student Service Center on studienberatung(at)hs-anhalt.de.

International students who have already been fully vaccinated in their home country before entering Germany, are asked to use the form on this webpage to inform the university of their vaccination status and to apply for reserve documentation. The document can be used for accessing classes and the university facilities.

Examinations & Required coursework

  • What regulations apply to final theses? (Last updated: November 23, 2021)

In the winter semester 2021/22 the regulations specified in the framework plan for teaching and examination operations (last revised: November 23, 2021) apply at Anhalt University. Work areas and equipment, in particular laboratory technology, may be used for the preparation of theses and during internships. Please contact your supervisor for assistance.

    ---

For students admitted to complete their theses before April 1, 2021:

The submission deadlines for theses in bachelor's, master's and diploma degree programs may be extended. This means that these thesis preparation times (deadlines) are extended by the period in which - as stipulated in the framework plan - access to the university's facilities required for the completion of a thesis is not possible. Departments are given the authority to pass additional instructions to implement the above.

For students admitted to complete their theses on or after April 1, 2021:

By way of special regulations amending their degree program and examination regulations, these students may also be granted an extension of their thesis preparation time corresponding to the period in which access to the university's facilities is not possible, as stipulated in the framework plan.

The candidate/student is required to submit the final thesis (bachelor's, master's or diploma) electronically (email). The thesis is to be sent to all assessors and to the respective Office of the Registrar (Prüfungsamt) using a single email addressed jointly to all those listed above. This regulation is an exception to the stipulations of the respective degree program and examination regulations. The date of receipt of the submitted thesis is the date the email was sent. However, the candidate is required to sign the declaration of independence (Selbstständigkeitserklärung) and send this document by post to the thesis supervisor (first assessor). The declaration must bear the candidate's original signature and state the thesis title.

Find this and further information in the framework plan for the summer semester 2021 (last revised: June 25, 2021) and in the supplementary regulations to the framework plan for restrictions affecting teaching for the summer semester 2021 (last revised: April 13, 2021).

University infrastructure

  • What are the requirements for attending on-campus classes and examinations? (Last updated: November 23, 2021)

In the winter semester 2021/22 attending in-person classes and examinations at Anhalt University requires one of the following as specified in the framework plan for teaching and examination regulations (last revised: November 23, 2021):

The medical mouth and nose covering required must be a multi-layer disposable mask (specifically a medical face mask according to the European standard EN 14683:2019-10 or a comparable product - commercially referred to as a surgical mask/OP-Maske, disposable mask/Einwegmaske or disposable protective mask/Einwegschutzmaske) or a particle-filtering half mask (in particular an FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3 mask). Persons with a medical certificate are exempt from wearing a medical mouth and nose covering. Such persons are required to carry their medical certificate at all times. Anhalt University is entitled to request a medical examination regarding the exemption from wearing a medical mouth and nose covering. This examination will be carried out by Anhalt University’s own medical officer.

People presenting or talking at length in classes may remove the mouth and nose covering if a continued minimum distance of 1.5 meters is ensured.

Students and staff are required to record the rooms they use for professional purposes on university premises by scanning the room-related QR code when entering the room. This QR code can be found at the doors/entrances of the classrooms or lecture halls (printed on A4-sized pieces of paper). The software requires each participant to confirm that they meet the criteria 'fully vaccinated', 'recovered' or 'tested' and agree to the data protection provisions. Verification of confirmation will be stored for 4 weeks following the event/class to allow for contact tracing.

Entry/return from a risk area & stay abroad

  • I am travelling to Germany from a high-risk area or have been in a high-risk area within the last 14 days before entering Germany. What regulations do I have to comply with? (Last updated: June 7, 2021)

Students who plan to enter Germany are asked to fill in the contact form for international students about 10 days prior to arrival. Please note that in case of short-notice arrivals, or notifications of your arrival within 5 working days prior to your arrival, Anhalt University cannot guarantee any assistance.

    1. In principle all persons entering Germany by plane are required to present their carrier (i.e. airline) with a negative test result before departure. This obligation to undergo testing and provide proof applies irrespective of whether or not the carriage takes place from a risk area. The test must be taken within 48 hours pior to entry into Germany.

    2. All travellers from international risk areas are required by law to submit the following online form - at the earliest 3 days and at the latest 1 day - before entering Germany in order to report their entry to the locally competent health authority: www.einreiseanmeldung.de. Proof thereof needs to supplied during entry into Germany (confirmation-email, print-out).

    3. Irrespective of a provided negative COVID-19 test result, all travellers from risk ares and high incidence areas are required to further quarantine themselves for 10 days (day of arrival + 10 days, effectively 11 days). In case there are not any symptoms for an infection with the Coronavirus, quarantine ends after 10 full days of quarantine. For travellers from risk areas or high incidence areas an early termination of quarantine is possible at the earliest on day 6 (day of entry + 5 day quarantine period) of your entry into Germany through a negative test result (PCR-RT-test) done at the local testing sites as follows. Self-tests or rapid tests are not accepted for early termination of quarantine.

    Salzlandkreis/Bernburg Campus:

    Test- und Fieberzentrum Bernburg-Roschwitz

    Thomas-Müntzer-Str. 41

    06406 Bernburg (Saale)

Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday: 1:00pm - 4:00pm

No appointment is needed. Students may have themselves tested during the opening hours.

    Anhalt-Bitterfeld/Köthen Campus:

There are various test centres. An appoinment needs to be requested beforehand by contacting 03496 60 1234. Please ask for an appointment in Köthen.

    Stadt Dessau-Roßlau/Dessau Campus:

    MVZ-Labor

    Bauhüttenstraße 6

    06847 Dessau-Roßlau

An appoinment needs to be requested beforehand by contacting 0340 540 530.

The quarantine is lifted for the duration of the test only and can be fully lifted only after confirmation by the locally competent health authority. For confirmation of the termination of your quarantine period please contact the health authority as follows:

    Local Public Health Offices (Gesundheitsämter)

    4. For areas of Coronavirus-variant of concern, there is a ban on transportation, therefore international students usually cannot enter Germany from these areas. For these areas a visa does not entitle the holder to enter Germany. Should entry nevertheless be possible, travellers from virus-variant areas must go into quarantine for 14 days. The possibility to shorten the quarantine (based on a second test) does not exist.
