Prof. Dr. J. Tümler

Research Focus

Future work of engineers will depend even more on digital processes. "Virtual Technologies" (Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality) offer possibilities to experience new products in early phases and prototypically assure their functionality. At the same time Virtual Technologies find wide usage in the field of end-customers.

Therefore, the research of the professorship Ingenieurinformatik is focussed on the following topics:

  • Support of engineering processes by Virtual Technologies
  • Collaboration of engineers both in Augmented and Virtual Reality at the same time
  • Application of new Augmented, Mixed and Virtual Reality technologies in the field of the consumer

Besides these, the application of AR/VR/xR in lectures is very important. Does the student's / teacher's choice of xR devices limit the learning outcome? This is one important question, that is in focus here.

Prof. Dr. J. Tümler plays an active role in the "PraxWerk" and "EduXBot" research projects.

At Anhalt University we held a workshop on September 28, 2023 entitled "xR und Lehre". Experts from the fields of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) discussed the topics of framework conditions, technical implementation, didactics and evaluation in the context of xR. The aim was to promote a professional exchange and gain practical insights. The results are available here.
