Statement of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences on Ukraine and the Ukrainian partner universities

Relations between the European Union and Russia have been marked by many challenges and confrontations for years. Now, more than 75 years after the Second World War, the situation could take on unimaginable proportions. Anhalt University strongly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a sovereign state in Europe, and fully supports the statement of the German Rectors' Conference.

We are deeply concerned about the lives and well-being of students, faculty and staff at our partner universities in Ukraine, as well as the families of our Ukrainian students.

University President Professor Jörg Bagdahn

The university is in contact with the students and staff of the Anhalt University from Ukraine and offers support. Regardless of the extremely difficult situation, we as a university want to continue to offer an environment where Ukrainian and Russian people can study, research and live together in peace.

Anhalt University itself as a cosmopolitan university that strives for social diversity in all areas. Individual differences in terms of ethical origin, gender and ideology strengthen the innovative potential and encourage the development of sustainable concepts for the future. The university is a place where people can meet and inspire each other without prejudice. More than 2,500 students from 114 nations are currently studying at one of the three campuses in Bernburg, Dessau and Köthen. Currently, 69 Ukrainian and 111 Russian students are enrolled at the university, and Anhalt University maintains cooperative relationships with five partner universities in Ukraine.
