Questions and answers to the Double Degree Program for Master Data Science

Can I legally stay in Germany after the double degree semester ends?
You need a serious reason to do so. One of the options is a will to defend your master thesis on site in Germany. In this case, you must inform the Anhalt University and your home university as well as the local foreign authority.
Do I need to know English?
Yes, knowledge of English at the level B1/B2 required to participate in the program. During the application period, you will have to pass an oral language test (online or on site).
Do I need to know German?
No, knowledge of German is not a requirement to participate in the program. However, we suggest learning basic phrases: at the airport, supermarket etc.
Do I need to open a blocked account?
Sometimes, German consulate requires students to open the blocked account. In this case, you can do a blocked account and health insurance together using an appropriate service.
Do I need to study in parallel in both Universities?
Typically, all the courses that you pass in the Anhalt University are counted according to the individual study plan in your home university. Hence, you don’t have to study in parallel.

How long is the Double Degree program?
The program is executed during the winter semester that starts on October 1st and ends on March 31st.
How long is the validity period of my visa?
The program participants typically receive visas with a validity period starting 1-2 weeks earlier than the winter semester (1 October) and ending exactly when the semester ends (31 March).
What does it cost to participate?
Students pay a semester service fee approx. 86 Euro. To be able to live and study in Germany, in general students should calculate with about 860 EUR per month to cover all costs (rent, social activities, daily expenses etc.).
What insurance should I buy to apply for a national visa?
If you were required to open a blocked account, the easiest option is to search for an appropriate service. You will find offers that will provide you with both health insurance and blocked account. If you were not required to open a blocked account please buy an Incoming Health Insurance (Incoming Krankenversicherung) for 2-3 weeks online. Will I get a scholarship at my home University?
If you are eligible to get the scholarship in your home university then the Double Degree program does not affect in any way.
Will I get a scholarship in Germany?
Typically, Double Degree students get a scholarship which covers all expenses if their home university is participating in the Erasmus programm, in other cases the amount of scholarship approx. covers only rent costs.
