Master International Trade

1st Semester

(starts in October - 15 weeks)

    Core modules

  • International Economic Theory and Policy
    This module provides an up-to-date and understandable analytical framework for current events of international economics. Discussions include an analytical framework for determining the effects of government policies affecting international trade as well as macroeconomic problems of countries. 
  • Economic Statistics and Empirical Methods
    Students are introduced to economic statistics and learn about qualitative and quantitative statistical methods in. Multivariate methods applicable to diverse areas in international business studies and international economics in real world contexts are exercised using statistical software (SPSS).
  • International Accounting and Financial Analysis
    The aim of the module is to provide students with a sound understanding of financial accounting in a national and international context and the ability to analyse the financial situation of a business using the information provided in the financial statements.
  • International Business Law
    Students will obtain the ability to recognise legal issues with regard to International Trade as well as the factors that should be taken into account while making crucial business decisions. In addition to substantive law, students are able to recognise International Trade structures.
  • Corporate Project Management I
    The overall aim of this module is to produce professional business managers capable of making effective and efficient project management decisions. The module provides a range of academic knowledge, business understanding, project management techniques based on PMBOK® and seeks to develop within students the ability to integrate these in real-life corporate projects.

  • International Human Resource Management
    The module defines key areas in international human resources management and outlines the differences between domestic and international structures. Various processes in HRM like recruiting, selection, training, performance management, compensation etc. are discussed in an international context.
  • Reporting and Controlling
    The course helps students to understand instruments of controlling and identifying the value of controlling for corporate life. They develop a professional and appropriate knowledge of the instruments and key performance indicators of controlling.

2nd Semester

(starts in April - 15 weeks)

    Core modules

  • International Management
    Understanding the reason why companies go global and a critical analysis of the different risks associated with it is the core insight of this module. Students receive an understanding of how political-, economic-social-, cultural- and technological-factors can influence the success of the internationalisation process.
  • International Marketing Management
    This module provides students with an overview of all the relevant principles, tools and processes in International Marketing Management with a focus on the latest trends and topics. Students create their own marketing plans and develop solutions to cases in the field of international marketing.
  • Corporate Finance and Investment
    The importance of corporate finance and investment for good management and corporate strategic success is emphasised in this module. It helps students to understand what financial managers should do to increase the value of the company and how finance theory translates into practice.
  • Leadership and Management Skills
    Students obtain a fundamental understanding of the basics of leadership, leadership principles, -processes and -systems through case-studies and group-work. The module provides a comprehensive overview of needed management skills, basic understanding of the psychology of human beings and their behaviour in various situations in business life.
  • Corporate Project Management II
    The module builds on the foundations of the module “Corporate Project Management I”. Students learn to effectively select, plan, implement, control, monitor, assess & terminate projects. It is based on a real-life case study, which is topical and internationally oriented and includes corporate visits to project partners, manager meetings, as well as guest lectures by corporate managers.

  • Strategic Logistics Management
    The module seeks to help students develop a sound understanding of the cause- effect-cause-ratios of international strategic logistics. Students shall also learn about the dynamics and complexities of modern management issues – as portrayed by topics of strategic logistics.    

  • Entrepreneurial Management
    Course participants obtain an understanding of the importance of entrepreneurship and the small business sector in a broad economic and social perspective. Students learn to evaluate how entrepreneurial businesses work in practice, focusing on the development, growth and exit stages through key functions of managing people, resources, marketing and capital.

3rd Semester

(starts in October - off-campus online courses via e-learning)

    Core modules

  • International Strategic Management
    Students learn to appreciate the contribution that strategy can make to a successful company-performance and recognise the key characteristics of an effective strategy. They identify the main structural features of an industry that influence competition and profitability and use evidence on structural trends.
  • Management Game
    Using a complex simulation of business decision making for multiple products on diverse markets with the aid of special computer software, this module engages students in group work in a competitive environment over a period of time, where they are required to formulate a strategy for the simulated company in the areas of marketing, operations, distribution, human resources, investment and budgeting.

    Master Thesis & Colloquium
Through the master thesis, the student shall demonstrate the capability of dealing with specific problems independently within the limited time-frame using academic research methodology to formulate solutions to technically complex and interdisciplinary issues.

During the colloquium the student shall demonstrate the capability of presenting the salient results of the academic work undertaken using modern medial techniques and technology and to defend the results in an academic discourse in front of faculty and peers. 

Course Options

Option to take part in exchange programmes with our cooperation partner universities abroad (e.g. Mexico, Spain, France, Russia, Poland, New Zealand etc.) during the 3rd semester.
