BioTech-House® - Virtual Reality in Biotechnology Education

The "BioTech-House" is an interdisciplinary teaching project at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and demonstrates the presence of biotechnology in our everyday life. This innovative and didactically sound project promotes access to biotechnology in education.

The immersive learning environment is represented as a virtual residential building, where each room is equipped with interactive objects. Learners can make yogurt in the kitchen and then test their knowledge in a quiz to earn a virtual reward. Wine production can also be learned in the virtual wine cellar, where learners go through all the important steps, from grape processing to bottling. Additionally, there is a lab that can be accessed by teleporting from the kitchen for yeast production. In this way, inexperienced learners can gain realistic initial experiences in the production of biotechnological products, while advanced biotechnologists can consolidate their knowledge, thus being optimally prepared for internships, for example.

With the support of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the project is continuously being expanded.
