This was a phishing email from the ISI training team at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. In the heat of the moment, or simply out of curiosity (as in this case), it’s easy to click on an image or a link to find out more. That is exactly what cybercriminals are aiming for. However, as this was a simulation, nothing further happened. You did not end up on any malicious website, nor was any malware installed.
But do make sure to come along to our ISI-DAYS in August and let’s talk about cyber security and the nasty tricks criminals use. Learning is easier and time flies when you’re having fun and enjoying yourself. And by the way: there are prizes to be won. So it’s well worth it! Of course, it’s possible for cars to be damaged in the parking lot, but the overall tone of the email and the link to a website where you’re asked to enter login credentials should raise a red flag. You also know that creating a sense of urgency is a classic “red flag” for phishing attempts.
If you follow the link, you’ll be taken to a website that looks similar to our university cloud, but if you look closely at the URL, you’ll notice that it’s not an “hs-anhalt.de” address, but a modified “hs-ahnalt.de” domain.
