30 years of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences
Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. For 30 years, the university has been training application-oriented specialists who are in demand both in the region and on the global job market. The university guarantees a top-level education - equally academic, practice-oriented and relevant to everyday life.
On the occasion of our university's anniversary, we would like to invite you to take a look at its history, present and future. Our website will guide you through the development of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, from the changes brought about by the Bologna reform to the awarding of the independent right to award doctorates. We started out very small. The founding rector, Professor Klaus Hertwig, talks about the early years of the university after reunification. Since then, the university has grown considerably. The current President of the university, Professor Jörg Bagdahn, reports together with his predecessor, Professor Dieter Orzessek, on the successes and challenges of their years in office and gives an outlook on what is to come. The degree programs have also changed since then: In seven degree programs, we show you the transformation of three decades, study, teaching and research. We highlight special moments in pictures and share with you the joyful experiences of former alumni.

Experience education and science
Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, with its three campuses in Bernburg, Dessau and Köthen, was founded at the time of reunification. The Technical University in Köthen and the University of Agriculture and Food Economics in Bernburg became Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in 1991. Expertise in Economics and the green sciences is taught in Bernburg. Köthen scores with 130 years of experience in training engineering specialists. Dessau builds on the Bauhaus tradition of training in Architecture and Design.
At the top
Three Rectors and Presidents have steered the fortunes of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences since it was founded in 1991. Each of them had different challenges to overcome during their time and each managed them in their own way. However, they all share a sense of duty, tenacity in the pursuit of strategic goals and, above all, the great joy of imparting knowledge to young people and thus making the region fit for the future.
From day one, the university has been closely linked to Economics and puts innovative ideas into practice. The strong commitment to research and teaching was crowned with success in 2021: the award of the independent right to award doctorates.
