This semester, we collaborate with the BMW Group. The aim of this cooperation is to develop a prototype building considering the lean philosophy which were developed by the Japanese in the mid 50’s and is nowadays worldwide used by companies. According to this, the concept of the project is about achieving greater flexibility in the infrastructure, the building and the interior design.

The way we construct buildings is changing day by day and it will develop much faster with technological developments. Today we start to build 3D Printed structures with the help of the robotic technology. So, the future factory should adapt those technological developments in every step of its’ life cycle of the building and production phases of cars. Based on this perspective, we inspired the smallest and basic module of our everyday usage technological devices, such as our smart phones, computers etc. A pixel is the smallest independent sample of an image, video, text or any visible thing on a computer display. We inspired from PIXEL and its’ possibilities of changing structure.

The smart pixel factory proposes a new, digital understanding of assembly, based on parts, open-ended, adaptable architecture. This approach capitalizes on the digital economy and automation, with the potential of the digital to democratize production and increase access. It contains pieces that are as scalable, accessible and versatile with using digital data. Three scaled modules created with adaptable connection points and they fit the 1.35x1.35 grid system on the construction site. Modules are created with small pieces which called BMW Tool Kit. Our design elements start with the BMW PERFECT CUBE which is the key element of our fabricated design. Other parts add the cube and create the BMW TOOL KIT. Design of the pieces gives the flexibility of the structure.

The design proposes that human robot cooperation on the construction site. With the help of the construction robots and design kit, the building assembly easily and the structure will be adaptable and changeable according to the new needs.
