Novella Food

Insects offer a way to address two major global challenges: food and protein supply, and organic waste management. They recycle nutrients from organic waste and return them to the local value chain. Insects are rich in calcium, iron, and zinc and contain valuable fats and proteins; consuming insects is both healthy and sustainable. Compared to mammals or birds, insects also pose a lower risk of transmitting infections to humans.

Many countries around the world have already recognized the benefits of insects as food, but in Western countries in particular, there is a reluctance to eat insects. 65 percent of German citizens would generally not include insects in their diet. The main obstacle is overcoming this aversion.

Novella Food is founded by Valerie Picodo Maagh and Kevin Möhring.

Our goal with Novella Food is to make the insects unrecognizable and incorporate them into food products to maximize their benefits. To this end, we have built our own pilot breeding facility in Magdeburg and are testing various processing methods.
