Donor areas for near-natural greening
The INB specialist information system was developed and published at www.spenderflaechenkataster.de with the aim of providing specialist knowledge on near-natural greening measures. Here, findings and experiences from science and practice on near-natural revegetation measures are presented in a clear form. The Saxony-Anhalt donor area register is intended to simplify the localization of donor areas suitable for nature conservation and Economics for the direct harvesting of seed and plant material and for the collection of basic seed for regional propagation in Saxony-Anhalt and thus promote the use of seed from local sources in compensation and renaturation measures. The information system for near-natural revegetation measures (INB) provides comprehensive information on the planning and implementation of these measures.
The project aims to lay the foundations for promoting the use of near-natural revegetation measures in Saxony-Anhalt. A key project objective is also to pass on this knowledge to stakeholders who are obliged to use regional seeds under Section 40 (4) of the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG), which has been in force since 1 March 2020.
The project's strong practical focus is thus intended to make a decisive contribution:
- promote near-natural greening measures, e.g. after intervention measures throughout Saxony-Anhalt;
- increase the appreciation of existing species-rich FFH open land areas;
- to provide technical support to local authorities in the creation of flower- and species-rich areas and other biodiversity-promoting measures.
The project also focuses on intensive public relations work, training courses and practical workshops that clearly convey the most important principles of near-natural greening methods to authorities, planners and implementers. Lectures, press articles and information brochures will also be used to transfer further information into practice. In addition, the germination tests with meadow grass from the previous project will be continued in order to gain insights into the development of germination capacity over time under different storage methods.
The project "Expansion and support of the Saxony-Anhalt donor area register and the information system for near-natural greening - intensification and expansion of knowledge transfer for the enhancement and development of valuable FFH open land habitats" is funded by EAFRD Saxony-Anhalt; funding period 2014-2020.
