Use certificates for encryption

If you want to send confidential data via email, you must encrypt it. Then only the recipient of the email can read the content of the message. Cybercriminals might be able to intercept the message, but they cannot decrypt it because they do not have the correct key.

The prerequisite for sending an encrypted email is applying for and importing a user certificate.

In the following document, you will read:

  • how to obtain the certificate
  • how to integrate the certificate into Outlook
  • how to send an encrypted email

Please note the following:

  • When you have downloaded the certificate file (*.p12), move it from the download folder to a secure location that only you have access to!
  • You can only send an email encrypted if the certificate is also installed on the device you are currently using.
  • Your counterpart can only read your encrypted email if you have previously received a signed email from them and added them as a contact in Outlook.
