Review of the UNITY projects - also with an outlook

In the winter semester 2022/23, students from various degree programmes (BAR, BIB, MAR) looked back at the projects that their fellow students developed in structurally weak regions of the world between 2007 and 2018.

What did they actually do back then and what can still come? They documented, researched, discussed, interviewed and analysed. The results will be presented on 29 March 2023, 1 p.m. in Dessau (08-004).

Documentation

Almost 15 years after the first project with students from Faculty 03 (2007 in South Africa), we look back on our previous projects and initiatives with project participants and guest commentators and ask ourselves and experts from different perspectives:

Why?

And if so, how?

What university teaching can combine with development cooperation

The aim of the publication is, on the one hand, to create a comparative collection of the projects, combined with interviews with participants and guest commentaries, which allows an overall view of past initiatives and shows their respective characters. In addition, we want to give more space to the continuous process of reflection, evaluation and (re)orientation that takes place simultaneously and between projects. In the practice of ongoing projects, there is often a lack of time or distance to explicitly scrutinise one's own actions as part of ongoing research, to record and evaluate knowledge and make it accessible for future applications.

Looking back on one's own projects is also linked to a look at the development of thematic discourses, e.g. on ‘design-build in architectural education’, ‘responsibility of design in its time’, ‘development cooperation and interculturality’, etc.

A look back, a collection - and hopefully an outlook that makes you want to get involved!
