At the 2017 FOUND IT! Idea Cup, Micha Reimer won over the jury right away with his idea. Five years later, Gaiagames—based in Könnern (Salzlandkreis)—has established itself on the international board game market.
Ten years ago, Micha Reimer launched his idea for a sustainable board game publisher. At the time, he was still a student of Nature Conservation and Landscape Planning at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and produced the first prototype at his own expense. A crowdfunding campaign paved the way for him to start his own business, and in 2015, “Ecogon,” a cooperative educational game about the environment and nature conservation, was released.
With the expansion “Ecogon – Stille Wasser” and the card game “Fish ‘n’ Flips,” Gaiagames has been inspiring a playful interest in nature and marine conservation for years.
Micha operated as a sole proprietor for nearly five years. Today, Gaiagames is run as a collective of three game designers. Their mission: to develop games with educational content and produce them as environmentally friendly as possible.
In the spring of 2021, the idea arose to create a postcard story about Vulpi, the little red fox. This led to the development of three board games in postcard format. Since last summer, the team has been working with DJ and ornithologist Dominik Eulberg on a board game that takes a closer look at local birdlife. This game is expected to be released in 2022—as is the second expansion for Ecogon.
