MAFiS is developing an innovative technology for controlled cell disruption. The magnetic field mill uses moving magnetic fields to precisely control ferromagnetic grinding media. This allows cells to be broken down mechanically in an efficient, energy-efficient manner without causing significant product stress. As a result, valuable components such as proteins, enzymes, or biopolymers can be extracted gently and with minimal contamination.

The modular design enables use from the laboratory to industrial-scale applications, in batch or continuous modes, with flexibly interchangeable grinding chambers. MAFiS aims to set a new standard for sustainable, validatable processes particularly in the pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and functional food sectors —and to significantly accelerate technology transfer.

The founding team—comprising Sören Thiering, Nils Franke, and Gopika Shaju—consists entirely of former and current students at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. The FOUND IT! Anhalt University Center for Entrepreneurship provides them with advisory support.

MAFiS was recently featured in a report by MDR Saxony-Anhalt.
