Regulations and Conditions
Landwirtschaft/Agrarmanagement - Bachelor - Fernstudium - Studien- und Prüfungsordnung 2015
The degree program in Agriculture provides specialized knowledge, methodological competence and management skills for running companies and farms based on production know-how of crop and animal production. Organizing cooperation between the agricultural industry and its upstream and downstream sectors as well as operating on national and international markets is especially important.
Employers in the agricultural sector need well-trained specialists. The advantage of both our combined and traditional full-time career-integrated degree program is that it enables employees to receive further qualifications parallel to their employment. Employees can thus be specifically trained for certain tasks in the company.
The degree program in Agriculture at Anhalt University aims to prepare students for management roles in agricultural operations and companies as well as for mid-level management positions in upstream and downstream areas of primary production. Based on their previous professional experience, students will obtain the skills necessary to master production and cost management, manage purchasing and sales as well as confront challenges whilst considering scientific, economic and ecological factors.
The academic degree Bachelor of Engineering is awarded after successfully completing this degree program.

Combined or full-time degree program?
With the two career-integrated degree programs (full-time, combined), we offer students special programs in agriculture. The traditional degree program in Agriculture covers all topics related to the agricultural sector intensively in a full-time program on campus. This enables students to comprehensively study and familiarize themselves with all subject areas in the lectures, lab/pool classes, projects and excursions.
In the two separate programs, the students’ individual needs can be addressed to an even greater extent. A full-time degree program is usually not possible for students who already have a family and have been working for a long time. In order to still acquire knowledge, the career-integrated degree program offers all the advantages to successfully complete a degree program. Our combined program is suitable for young people who have completed their vocational training, who are employed in a company and who would like to gain further qualification with a degree. This mixed degree program thus combines the advantages of the full-time degree program and the career-integrated distance learning program.
The agricultural sector (primary production, upstream and downstream) is a major economic factor all throughout Germany. A cross-section of applicants/students also shows this. Our students have the following professional backgrounds: Farmers with their own business (animal production, plant production, special crops, forestry), employees in agricultural enterprises such as in trade or the field service of the upstream and downstream sector, but also professionals who deal with the agricultural sector as well: Lawyers, bankers, insurance agents. Therefore, students have the opportunity to come into contact with people from a wide range of industries in the agricultural sector. There is an intensive exchange between students of all semesters, the lecturers as well as the Degree Program Advisor and Coordinator.
The general framework will be adjusted as needed and will be improved gradually. Our students have very diverse needs. Therefore, solutions cannot always be found in the Program and Examination Regulations. However, with an excellent attitude of cooperation between all parties involved, we have, so far, always found individual solutions.

Program sequence
This is a distance learning career-integrated degree program. A distance learning degree program offers flexible learning periods and is therefore easy to combine with professional activities. In addition, students are able to learn at home.
Students will be provided with learning materials for the degree program (online and in paper form) allowing them to structure their independent study phases and optimize their examination preparation. In addition, there are attendance phases in the form of consultations at the Bernburg Campus of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. In these meetings, you will have the opportunity to interact with the lecturers and other students, to ask questions as well as to consolidate and expand your knowledge.
Depending on the module, 12 to 18 hours of mandatory attendance are included in the curriculum. Usually there is one attendance weekend (Friday/Saturday) per module. The attendance dates for each semester will be published in advance via the program schedule in the Anhalt University’s intranet.
Throughout the program, students will receive individual support from the Degree Program Coordinator. The Degree Program Coordinator is the first point of contact for all non-subject-related questions and the person who coordinates cooperation between lecturers and students. The lecturers responsible for individual modules provide content-related support.
All modules conclude with an examination in the form of written examinations, oral examinations or term papers and/or presentations. Examinations are taken at the end of each semester during the examination week. The exact examination dates will be published in advance via the examination schedule in the Anhalt University’s intranet.
Classes and corresponding examinations are offered on an annual basis. Students can begin their program in the winter semester, starting on October 1 of each year.
-
Degree program modules
The degree program is module based. A module is a content-related course in which students are required to take an examination or submit some other type of verifiable coursework. In addition to the compulsory modules, elective modules with a certain number of credits must also be completed. The number of credits depends on the average amount of work involved for the respective module. The workload includes independent study, participating in (on-campus) seminars, preparing and following up on classes, preparing for examinations as well as completing course and assessed work including lab/pool classes.
The normal program length is seven semesters. In six semesters, students will complete a total of 20 compulsory modules as well as nine elective modules selected from the corresponding catalogue. The seventh semester is reserved for the preparation and defense of the bachelor's thesis.
Students will complete compulsory and elective modules following the curriculum (see Appendix 4 of the Program and Examination Regulations, only available in German). The curriculum includes 5 modules per semester.
-
Attendance phases
Classes with mandatory attendance supplement independent study phases guided by learning materials. There is one attendance weekend (Friday/Saturday) per module each semester; these are spread out over the semester. The dates will be announced in advance via the schedule in the university's intranet, so that students can fit them in around their work commitments. Students following the prescribed schedule attend approx. 7 weekends in person (7x2 days) per semester.
Attendance at individual on-campus classes is not mandatory. However, we recommend participation as the personal exchange between students and the lecturer facilitates not only the clarification of questions but also the consolidation and enhancement of knowledge. In addition, the on-campus meetings are a great enrichment beyond lecture notes and offer you the opportunity to apply your acquired knowledge.
In order to take the examinations at the end of the semester, you need to schedule some attendance days at Anhalt University. The examinations are scheduled in a two-week examination period. The basis for passing the examinations is the respective lecture notes for the module.
The examination period for the winter semester is mid to late February and for the summer semester early to mid November. There is also a specific period for retaking examinations. The period for retaking examinations for the winter semester takes place mid to late September and the period for the summer semester is mid to late March.
If you need proof of attendance for your employer and/or other institutions, you can use this form (only available in German) and have it signed by your lecturer or the Degree Program Coordinator.
-
Leave of absence (vacation semester)
All students at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences have the opportunity to request a leave of absence (vacation semester). Students can usually request 4 vacation semesters (max. 2 consecutive semesters). Further vacation semesters must be applied for separately. During a vacation semester, students do not have to pay the administrative fee. Students are not allowed to participate in consultations, practical courses, lab/pool classes and/or examinations during the vacation semester. The application for a leave of absence must be submitted to the Student Service Center (SSC) by March 15 (for the summer semester) or September 15 (for the winter semester) at the latest.
You can find the corresponding form on the His-Qis portal (no login needed) – “Formulare allgemein” – “Antrag auf Beurlaubung/application for leave of absence”
-
Funding opportunities
The career-integrated degree program is subject to a fee – an administrative fee must be paid for each semester. In addition, there are costs connected to the attendance dates (accommodation and travel costs).
For students, the question may arise of the financial feasibility and the possibility of further funding opportunities at this point. Most students will finance part of the costs with their ongoing salary. Nevertheless, you can check other funding opportunities. You can find more information at

Administrative fee
Distance learning program
As of the winter semester 2014/2015, the administrative fee for distance learning materials and on-campus classes amounts to €400 per semester for all students enrolled at the university since 2014 (in accordance with the Program and Examination Regulations of 2014). This includes the membership fee for the Studentenwerk (Student Services Agency).
Combined distance learning program
For the full-time period (winter semester), the Studentenwerk membership fee for full-time students as well as €6 Students’ Union fee (1st semester only) are charged. For the distance learning part (summer semester), the administrative fee for distance learning materials will be charged. This amounts to €400 per summer semester from the winter semester 2014/15 onwards for all students enrolled at the university since 2014 (in accordance with the Program and Examination Regulations of 2014).
Special regulation
The administrative fee of €400 per semester does not apply if students only have to complete the project, the bachelor’s thesis and/or the colloquium. However, the payment of the Studentenwerk fee (€40) for the reregistration remains. Until now (incl. winter semester 2022/2023), these students were reregistered by the Student Service Center free of charge. This is no longer possible due to the current statutes and the solidarity principle of the Studentenwerk.
In order to not pay the administrative fee, an informal application with “Bitte um Prüfung des Erlasses der Lehrmittelpauschale zum nächsten Fachsemester” (request to waiver the administrative fee for the next semester) can be submitted to the Student Secretary Office / Enrollment Office Bernburg (https://service.asa.hs-anhalt.de). The application may only be submitted within the current reregistration period.
The 6th semester examination period is regularly scheduled in November of the following winter semester. This results in a normal program length of 7 semesters. Therefore, there is no waiver of the administrative fee for 7th semester students who are waiting for examination results from the previous summer semester's examination period.
The administrative fee cannot be reclaimed retrospectively.
-
Payment of the administrative fee (1st semester)
Students have to transfer the administrative fee of €400 per semester to the university by the deadline to ensure successful enrollment in the 1st semester.
Please follow the instructions on the SSC Student and Applicant Portal.
-
Payment of the administrative fee (reregistration)
Students have to transfer the administrative fee of €400 per semester to the university by the deadline to ensure successful reregistration for the following semester.
Period for reregistration for the winter semester: July 15 to August 15 of each year
Period for reregistration for the summer semester: January 15 to February 15 of each year
(Updated on December 23, 2021!)
The payment instructions can be found on the His-Qis portal (no login needed) – “Informationen zur Rückmeldung” – “Rückmeldung Fernstudium”
-
Crediting previous assessed coursework
Modules from a previous degree program comparable to modules of this degree program can be recognized. For this purpose, three documents are necessary:
- original filled out, printed and signed document for “Antrag auf Anerkennung von Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen aus einem Vorstudium” (Application for Credit Transfer),
- digitally filled out document “Antrag auf Anerkennung von Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen aus einem Vorstudium” (no scan!),
- Module descriptions of the requested module from the previous university and
- transcript/record of achievements (credits and/or grades must be evident) from the previous university.
A preliminary assessment is possible and useful. The documents are submitted digitally to the Degree Program Coordinator for an initial review.
After submission of the valid application to the Degree Program Coordinator, it will be evaluated internally. The applicant and the Examinations Office will be notified about the result of the evaluation. Please note that the modules must be compatible in terms of content. If necessary, two modules from the previous university may need to be combined/credited for one module at our university. Partially completed modules cannot be recognized. For example, if the module “Mathematik und Statistik” (mathematics and statistics) was completed in a previous degree program, but not the module “Informatik” (computer science), then the module “Mathematik, Statistik und Informatik” (mathematics, statistics and computer science) of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences cannot be recognized.
Only modules from a previous degree program can be recognized. Achievements from vocational training and continuing education programs of other institutions are not eligible for recognition.
The application form for credit transfer can be found on the His-Qis portal (no login needed) – “Formulare Bernburg” – “Application for Credit Transfer”
(If you wish to request recognition for more than 5 modules, use a second form)
The program starts on October 1, 2022

It is advisable to create your own learning spaces. These learning spaces can be quite different for each individual. You can also discuss this with relatives and acquaintances and especially later with fellow students. The following initial tips may be helpful:
- A study space should be set up (a private room, a part of your room, a part of your desk, a box for study materials etc.).
- A good tip from a colleague was and is: Use a specific color scheme for all things related to studying (green folder, green pen, green cover of college notebook, green coffee or tea cup etc.) – it's easier to find your way into your own study space
- Look into using libraries in your own area (e.g. university libraries with guest access); an interlibrary loan may be an option (available in many libraries, even small ones)
- Familiarize yourself with the Program and Examination Regulations and the Module Description Handbook of the degree program
State Agricultural Institutes of the German Federal States
For further technical training – with a focus on practical applications – one should make use of the offerings of the agricultural representatives of the individual federal states. For this purpose, one should familiarize oneself with the structure of the agricultural representatives of one's own federal state in Germany in order to be able to use all the information later on.- The websites of the state representatives on agriculture provide a lot of information on the major complexes of agriculture as well as the specifics of each state
- Recommendation: one should work through the basic information on the complexes of animal production, crop production, markets and agricultural technology
- Goal:
- Acquiring and/or brushing up on agricultural terminology
- Knowing where to find basic and up-to-date information on the major complexes of applied agriculture
- Using and applying this knowledge during and after your studies
Further training offers via events
For professional training – with a focus on the diversity of application as well as new trends and perspectives – one should take advantage of the events offered by the agricultural representatives of the individual states, the various agriculture-related institutions as well as those of the local and higher-level trade fairs.
- Recommendation: the options on continuing education in one's own federal state should be examined, the offers of lectures and events on practical agriculture in the immediate vicinity (especially federal states) should be used, information on trends and current factors influencing agriculture can be obtained at agricultural fairs and from further institutions
- Goal:
- Information on trends and innovations will support you in dealing with the constant adjustments of framework conditions of the agricultural sector
- Classification and reflection of undergraduate course content to students' individual circumstances
- Use and application of this knowledge during and after your studies
Preparatory courses for studies
Students can access various offers of small and larger preparatory and/or refresher courses on different subject contents.
- Examples (use the offers in your federal state in Germany!):
- www.volkshochschule.de (study preparation)
- and many more
- Recommendation: the module contents in the module description handbook of the degree program should be looked into; should challenges with certain basics be foreseen, some tutoring in preparation for your studies can be useful, such topic areas could be:
- Mathematics, especially statistics and basic economics
- Basics of computer science
- Basics of general business administration
- Basics of political economics
- Basics of chemistry, especially biochemistry
- Goal:
- Preparatory courses support in any case the high proportion of independent study
- Preparation can help – especially in the first two semesters – to settle well into this study model
- And it is thus possible to better focus on the technical content and specifics
