Department 5

Computer Science and Languages

Looking to the future with eyes wide open

Here at the Department of Computer Science and Languages, we strongly emphasize research and equality. Although the department is relatively small, we have some major research projects that not only create a lot of new knowledge, but also jobs. We are particularly active in the areas of equality and fostering enthusiasm for STEM topics. This is why we have been a partner of the "komm, mach MINT" network since 2016.But the topics that will shape our future, such as machine learning and digital networking, are also being studied here.

Köthener Informatiktag (Köthen Day of Computer Science)

The “Köthener Informatiktag” is an offering of our department to regional companies. Current topics in computer science are presented in an understandable way, shortening the time between development in university laboratories and practical use in companies and administrations.

  • In 2012, the topic of long-term archiving was discussed. The legally compliant and technically secure storage of digital documents for a manageable period of 30 years has not been clarified.
  • Big data, also in the context of advertising and computer games, was the main topic in 2014.

gamedev|education

The gamedev|education conference aims to identify and discuss current issues and trends in the computer games industry. This includes purely developmental aspects of applied computer science as well as artistic issues of content production or purely cognitive contexts from the user's point of view.In general, the range of topics is not limited.

International Conference of Young Scientists

Every spring, the Department of Computer Science and Languages organizes the International Conference of Young Scientists on Solutions of applied problems in control, data processing and data analysis.Students and young scientists from partner universities, in particular the National Polytechnic Research University of Perm (Russia), and students from our University have the opportunity to present their successes in solving research and development tasks in the field of innovative computer science applications to a wider international audience.

International Conference on Applied Innovation in IT

The discipline of Information Techologies is an important and highly dynamic field. A further challenge is that the way research is conducted is changing and requires greater collaboration between researchers, as well as between researchers and industry, to integrate capabilities to face today's challenges. The goal of this conference is to bring together the researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of Innovation Management in IT Science.
