The field of structural engineering combines the areas of design concept, design and construction, which determine Architecture, with structural analysis and planning, which are the focus of civil engineering. The design concept of the supporting structure is an integral part of the building design. It pursues the goal of developing high-quality supporting structures in terms of construction, design, Economics and sustainability.
The basic knowledge of structural design is taught in the Bachelor's degree course in Architecture through the subject Technical Design in the 3rd and 4th semesters. The focus here is on the teaching and design concept of different beam and surface structures.
In-depth computer-aided structural design with the help of truss programs is the subject of the Digital Processes module in the Master's degree course in Architecture.
The practical project in the Bachelor of Architecture as well as project work and project specializations are regularly offered for all Architecture degree programs. Project specializations deal with the topics of load-bearing structures and façade constructions.
Various elective modules such as glass construction, façade construction and smart materials for Bachelor's and Master's degree programs round off the range of courses on offer.
