Until the end of the 2020/21 winter semester, students at German universities who are having financial difficulties because of the pandemic can apply for the interim financial aid provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung).

In addition, students who have not received BAföG in the past, may be entitled to BAföG now. They can apply for BAföG or for a reassessment in order to receive a higher BAföG benefit for the current year. Details can be found on the website of the Studentenwerk.
Furthermore, international students are now also able to apply for a KfW student loan which is interest-free for the entire year 2021. International students can submit an application until March 2021.
