As an international student, you also need health insurance in Germany.
Health Insurance
it is easiest for you to take out German statutory health insurance.
Important! Entry or travel health insurance is not sufficient for your enrollment!
then you have the options in Germany of either taking out voluntary statutory health insurance (continuation of statutory health insurance) or taking out private health insurance.
Important! We recommend that you always take out a contract with a private health insurance company (e.g. Mawista) for at least 24 months (preferably even five years). Cancellation is possible at any time without any problems, provided the notice period is observed. BUT: If more cost-intensive treatments are pending, you are protected against the private health insurance company being able to terminate your contract prematurely!
General Practitioner or Hospital?
GPs take care of all normal illnesses.
You go to the GP-practice if you have a fever, cough, pain, a cold or other minor illnesses. You can pick up a sick note there (important, for example, if you miss an exam due to illness).
This is where you go in acute emergencies and accidents. In short: If you need immediate medical help!
If you are in severe pain or have a very high temperature, you can also go directly to the hospital/emergency room! However, depending on the emergency situation and urgency, there may be long waiting times on site.
