Erasmus+

Erasmus+ 2021-2027

With Erasmus+, students can study at a partner university in another program country or partner country or do an internship in a program country in order to expand their social and cultural skills and improve their career prospects. Here you will find an overview of all Erasmus key actions:

All major updates at a glance

  • Flexibility

The minimum duration of stay for standard mobility has been be reduced from 3 to 2 months for study stays abroad. For students, interns and doctoral candidates, it is now between 2 to 12 months per study cycle. All mobilities can be combined with virtual mobility phases. Students who cannot participate in a long-term physical mobility can now participate in a short term physical mobility (5 to 30 days) and combine it with a mandatory virtual component.

  • International dimension

The Erasmus+ program aims to strengthen the role of the European Union as a global actor. Universities can use up to 20 percent of the approved project budget for the worldwide mobility of students, interns, doctoral students, lecturers and university staff towards partner countries without having to submit a qualitative application in advance. Starting from 2022 it will be possible to submit a detailed application for mobility in the international dimension (formerly KA107), which is subject to a qualitative selection process.

  • Internships / Traineeships

Internships for students (SMP) and graduates are a core component of the Erasmus+ program. Starting in September 2021, SMP mobilities will receive a top-up of 150 EUR per month.

  • Blended Intensive Programs (BIP)

BIP can be used to design short, intensive mobility curricula together with partner universities in program countries. A BIP allows to combining physical short-term mobility of 5 to 30 days with a virtual component; the total duration of the individual BIPs is not limited. With a BIP, for example, summer- and winter schools can be funded.

  • Green Mobility

"Environment and Combating Climate Change": The Erasmus+ program would like to raise awareness of climate change and environmental protection as well as of the ecological footprint that participants create through mobility. A top-up of 50 EUR and the consideration of up to 4 travel days for the use of sustainable means of transport are intended to support this in classic student mobility. Travel expenses for all mobilities are increased if participants are using sustainable means of transportation.

  • Inclusion and diversity

Erasmus+ aims to promote equal opportunities, inclusion, diversity and fairness in all areas. In the future, more people with disabilities and those who belong to the group of “fewer opportunities” will be specifically addressed. Starting in 2021, participants with a degree of disability (GdB) of more than 20, parents with children abroad and chronic illness will receive an additional monthly support of 250 EUR. Participants with a GdB over 20 can apply for full coverage of costs.
