It is probably the most attractive way to study abroad.

A qualified education should not fail because of missing financial means. The aim of the BAföG is to give all young people the opportunity, regardless of their social and economic situation to complete an eduaction that corresponds to their abilities and interests.

For the promotion of education abroad certain funding offices are responsible as foreign offices. Each of the eighteen foreign offices is responsible for one particular foreign state or several foreign states.

Important:

Applications for assistance abroad should be submitted at least six months before the start of the planned stay abroad.

DAAD: HAW International scholarship

This scholarship is available for students, graduates, doctoral candidates and postgraduates of state or state-recognized universities.

If you are not a German citizen, you can apply for a DAAD scholarship abroad under the following conditions:

You are considered equal to Germans according to § 8 para. 1 number 2ff, para. 2, para. 2a and para. 3 BAföG. In this context, the wording of the law applies, to be found here.

In addition, you are eligible to apply if:

  1. You are enrolled in a course of study at a German university with the aim of obtaining a degree at the German university, or.
  2. you are doing a doctorate at a German university
  3. and intend to go abroad during this time. This regulation does not apply to international students/doctoral candidates who are already supported by an "incoming DAAD scholarship" in Germany.

Furthermore, DAAD will examine to what extent there is a connection to Germany and whether there is a reasonable expectation that you will return to Germany after completing the temporary stay abroad.

As a rule, sponsorships in the home country are excluded.
