Interview with Stefan Kanow

Stefan Kanow (SK) on continuing education

Stefan Kanow is 36 years old, Managing Director of E.DIS Bau- und Energieservice GmbH. He is currently studying the master’s degree program in Engineering and Management at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences alongside his job. In his job as an engineer, he has experienced how challenging it is to manage the balance between technical leadership and business management. It soon became clear that a career-integrated degree program could provide him with helpful professional basics to improve his situation. He revealed in an interview why he chose Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.

Was the topic of continuing education new to you, Mr. Kanow?

SK: “No. I've already participated in four career-integrated programs in total because this concept works for me. In the process, I first advanced from a specialist to a master electrician. After that, I also earned my bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, which, by the way, I also did at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.”

Why do you invest so much time in your education?

SK: “My goal is to continuously develop on a personal and professional level in line with my interests. However, I'm no longer just concerned with the technical aspects but also with business management aspects.”

What makes studying at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences more appealing than at other universities?

SK: “I like the proximity to my hometown of Potsdam and that the career-integrated master’s degree program in Engineering and Management includes on-campus as well as e-learning classes. This allows me to achieve a great work-life balance. The degree program fees are affordable, which is a positive difference from other offers. I've always been able to contact the professors and instructors easily and get quick feedback. The degree program coordinator has often been a great help too.

Some people are reluctant to study while working because they fear they will not be able to meet the demands. What was it like for you?
SK: “Before I started my studies, I was also a little worried about whether I would be able to manage this master's degree while working. But now I can say, it's possible and the benefits are worth the effort.”

Thank you for your feedback, Stefan Kanow. We wish you all the best for your private and professional future.
