Historical Harvest Festival

in Bernburg-Strenzfeld

Date: August 26, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m.

We are looking forward to your visit!

Welcome to Bernburg-Strenzfeld!

Colorful, lively and traditional: The Historic Harvest Festival will be held on the estate of the International Plant Production Center of the DLG in Bernburg-Strenzfeld. At 10 a.m., the festival begins with the traditional harvest procession, which represents the development of agriculture. Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and the Saxony-Anhalt State Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture are organizing the harvest festival, which is taking place for the 27th time this year.

Event program

In addition to music and dance on stage, there are many highlights related to agriculture. The tractor parade with vehicles is a spectator magnet: Historical tractors from the late 1920s until the 1970s are introduced and commented on by experts. The large farmers' market offers a colorful variety of regional products. Cattle, sheep and alpacas can be seen up close. Their owners are happy to advise and give important tips on keeping and handling farm animals. The old-time plowing will be reached on foot, past meadows and fields. The Straw Figure and Scarecrow Contest is open to companies, clubs, schools and kindergartens who want to win with their homemade figures. There is also plenty to do for our younger guests: They can romp on the straw playground, bounce on the trampoline, ride ponies or listen to a fairy tale performance. Many booths invite you to get crafting and be creative.

The Historic Harvest Festival begins at 10 a.m. and ends around 6 p.m. Admission costs € 5 and is free for children up to 10 years old. There are bus connections from Bernburg to Strenzfeld. There are three large parking lots for those arriving by car.

  • Scarecrow Competition

The “scarecrow competition” for our young guests makes it possible for children to participate in the Historical Harvest Festival and show the “grown-ups” what they can do.

Encouraged by the positive feedback, the organizational team has once again invited primary schools, preschools, and children’s organizations from the entire Salzland district to participate in the “scarecrow competition”. The children have great ideas about how a scarecrow could look (everything is allowed from fairy tales to fantastical figures). Adults can help the children by providing advice and various materials that can be found at home in the sewing basket, dad’s workbench, or in grandma and grandpa’s garden.

The award ceremony for the three best scarecrows will be at 2 p.m. on stage 2.
