Vineyard hike

of Anhalt University in Bernburg

Date: May 24, 2023

The hike to the vineyard "Waladala" starts from the Marienkirche in Bernburg at 5:00 pm.

"Waladala" - A place for modern research

700 white and red grape vines, a new entrance area and an old rebuilt natural stone wall: The "Waladala" vineyard in the Waldau district has seen a lot of activity in recent months. Friends of wine can see for themselves. Anhalt University invites you to a vineyard hike. Farmers, monks and students and all interested people start together in front of the Marienkirche in the Breite Straße in Bernburg. If you don't want to walk, you'll be in good hands on the carriage.

The Wine Institute and Anhalt University's teaching and experimental distillery will be presenting themselves at "Waladala". The "Weinbaufreunde Bernburg" present their work caring for the grape variety "Blauer Bernburger". With wine and hearty meals, enjoy the view against a special backdrop. For the hikers, a shuttle car will return to the monastery.

For more than two years, the Department of Agriculture, Ecotrophology and Landscape Development, supported by the city, has been reactivating and transforming the once wild hillside into an innovative and sustainable teaching and experimental vineyard. Following the wine-growing tradition of earlier centuries, the university aims to bring the subject of wine back to the attention of the social actors in Bernburg and, at the same time, to create opportunities for scientific research in viticulture. And students benefit from this as well: At Anhalt University, they are introduced to teaching and research in a practical way right from the start of their education.
