Biomedical Engineering (B.Eng.)

Department of of Electrical, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

Course content and objectives

An electronic eye that can recognize colors. Prosthetics for arms that will be able to be controlled by the brain thanks to technical devices - those are still visions for the future, but someday they will be real. Biomedical Engineering will play a key role in the process of realizing these visions. A world of complex systems awaits students at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences: Systems Analysis, Modelling and Simulation, Medical Instrumentation, Biosensor Development, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Rehabilitation Technology and Prosthetics, Medical Assistance Systems, Clinical Engineering, and Biotechnology - there are almost no boundaries to the interests and inclinations in this future technology for the purpose of improving health. After completing the program in Biomedical Engineering, you can mediate between the worlds of medicine and engineering: You master and develop new technologies that are used by doctors in diagnostics and therapy to help patients and save lives.

During the biomedical program, current knowledge and methods of engineering are taught and ways to use them to solve problems are shown. Students get to know the particular safety aspects of medical engineering. They are always aware that they carry a great responsibility when monitoring technical equipment in medicine. During the program, medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic issues are explained together with appropriate technical solutions. A special focus lies on the interactions between technical systems and the human body.

Anhalt University of Applied Sciences offers a unique equipment pool, close partnerships with the USA, and excellent business contacts, thereby providing outstanding possibilities for development - both in professional and scientific paths.
