Course content and objectives
Of course what you say is important. But in professional life, how you say something is also important. Communication is of key importance for all managers, and the certificate program “Leadership and Communication” therefore conveys more in-depth skills in this area in five modules. Professionals with a university entrance qualification, graduates with a first professionally qualifying university degree, and people with relevant, well-founded professional experience can expand their skills in leadership and communication in this career-integrated program. The spectrum is broad: Stress and health management, digitalization in the working world, legal finesse in the leadership process, and principles of organizational and HR development can be chosen.
Coursework and exams in this certificate program can in some cases be recognized for other degree programs.

Program contents
-
Module 1: Communication and leadership
Main topics:
- Soft skills
- Leadership
- Reflection
Relevance:
Uncertainty in daily leadership tasks is not uncommon, especially for middle managers, who are often entrusted with leadership issues without systematic training. Because of increasing demands from above and below, it is necessary to appropriately reflect on leadership so as to be able to practice and live modern leadership in a meaningful and effective way. Students will learn effective leadership and communication tools and how to apply them quickly and effectively. By reflecting on their own role through communicative training sequences, students will gain more confidence and clarity in their leadership role. The intensive exchange and the individual feedback provided by lecturers support the students.

Module 2: Health management as a leadership task
Main topics:
- Corporate health management
- Implementation
- Prevention
Relevance:
This module focuses on showing (future) managers and employees the added value of health management and recommends successful implementation or optimization of appropriate measures. In the medium- to long-term, effective health management can increase employee engagement and job satisfaction and can improve the reputation of the entire company as a good employer.

Module 3: Digital literacy
Main topics:
- Digital communication
- Marketing tools
- Operational processes and procedures
Relevance:
Wiki, Twitter, feeds, corporate blogs and social networks are replacing traditional corporate communication tools. This changes the way supervisors and employees interact as well as the way they deal with customers. For example, new options and possibilities are arising in marketing, sales, the optimization of operational processes and customer service. Digitization can also help make working hours more flexible and increase efficiency. Students learn about the trends, options and tools of progressive digitization in order to generate sustainable benefits and to successfully survive on the market in the future. Last but not least, increasing digitization will be considered from a legal perspective.

Module 4: Legal aspects in leadership
Main topics:
- Contract law
- Labor law
- Contractor's liability
Relevance:
Managers, especially in small and medium-sized companies, are inevitably confronted with legal issues. Whether specific types of contracts, general terms and conditions, labor law issues or questions regarding contractor’s liability, executives are constantly confronted with laws, regulations or directives and are required to deal with them. This module begins with the conclusion, fulfillment and termination of contracts. The module also discusses the most important contract types and introduces concepts of general terms and conditions and contractor’s liability.

Module 5: Organizational and personnel development
Main topics:
- Change management
- Knowledge management
- Methods and tools
Relevance:
Both organizational and personnel development are sustainable change processes and are holistically planned. The rapidly growing volume of data and information, the loss of knowledge and experience due to the increased turnover of employees as well as the continuously increasing competition for highly qualified personnel are forcing companies to become more flexible and optimize their operations. The starting point for coping with these current and future challenges are new working-time models, different instruments and methods for personnel and organizational development including personnel recruitment. In this context, the module provides students with an overview of current trends, enables them to reflect on their work situation and presents them with creative and practical tools for ongoing and upcoming change processes related to structure, employees, tasks and technologies.
