Studying at the Department of Computer Science and Languages is characterized by application-oriented teaching, small learning groups and the opportunity for direct exchange with professors. Our degree programs pave the way to a digital future: with technically well-equipped labs/pools, competent supervisors and an interdisciplinary approach, we prepare today's students for the business and research world of tomorrow. Köthen is a small town which, in addition to its depth of culture, is popular because of its location between Leipzig and Magdeburg. Halle is also well connected through public transport and is home to many lecturers and students who enjoy studying in a more relaxed environment but prefer living in a bigger city. Student life is primarily characterized by personal initiative – many students get involved and meet in student clubs or in the Mensakeller (an event location on campus).
The demand for computer scientists is higher than ever
Studying computer science is without doubt worthwhile in today's world – life, work and business are undergoing an unstoppable digital transformation, thus keeping the demand for specialists constantly high. Salary levels often far exceed those of other academic fields – especially if graduates specialize in a certain field of application. The industry is young and flexible and is currently looking for young talent possessing the required creativity, communication and teamwork skills.
The bachelor's degree program in Applied Computer Science – Digital Media and Game Development teaches theoretical and practical computer science expertise as well as the methodological skills required by students to work independently in the diverse fields of computer science.
Graduates will be able to analyze issues from professional practice, describe them using formal means, develop solutions based on information technology and implement these solutions with suitable methods. This requires following the project management guidelines that have been set or that students have set themselves.
Throughout the degree program, students acquire specialist knowledge and skills in editing and designing media and computer games as well as the utilization and impact of such technologies. As a result of this, graduates are qualified to work in various application fields of computer science. Due to the degree program’s application focus, this variety of work fields particularly includes the conception, design and production of digital media, the development of digital games, as well as the conception and implementation of multimedia information and communication systems.
Graduates will acquire experience in working in teams and will have the opportunity to put their communication and cooperation skills to the test in project-based work.
