Course content and objectives
Media technology is an important element of modern society. In the media industry, the introduction of innovative technologies has led to accelerated development and increased integration in all areas. Technological developments in multimedia have influenced the requirement profile for graduates in terms of engineering knowledge and methods. Up and coming media technicians participate in developing new devices and processes for producing, transmitting, and playing back media content. This includes, for example, professional audio and video technology, virtual worlds, interactive television, streaming, and the development of internet applications or modern compression methods. Successful completion of the program enables graduates to enter into an industry of the future in which expertise is desired. Equipped with basic scientific knowledge, students at Anhalt University have excellent career prospects in multimedia development, telecommunication companies, radio and television, and in the advertising and entertainment industry.

Information about the degree program
No other sector of the economy has influenced technological development in recent years as much as media technology. Media technicians work as experts in media production operations, for example, in radio, film and TV, in event and conference centers as well as in concert and stage productions.
The degree program in Media Technology aims to convey theoretical and practical knowledge and skills as well as methods. This will enable graduates to apply advanced scientific methods and insights in an interdisciplinary way as well as recognize problems and develop solutions.
The degree program is both scientifically and application oriented.The degree qualifies students to take on challenging tasks in media companies and organizations. The main subject-related qualification objectives are explained in more detail below.

Broadcast Systemtechnik in the 3rd semester
Interstate Broadcasting Treaty (Rundfunkstaatsvertrag). Requirements of radio and television (TV). Production and post-production planning. Formats, interfaces and coding methods. Color spaces for SD-TV and HD-TV, requirements for broadcast-ready contributions. IT broadcast workflows.
Informationsverarbeitung A/V in the 4th semester
Information processing of audio and video signals. Encoders and decoders. Data reduction and data compression. Algorithms for coding without loss and coding with loss. Error correcting codecs. Consumer formats to illustrate how codecs work.
HDTV und Digital Cinema in the 4th semester
High Definition Television (HDTV). UHD, 2K, 4K, 8K. Requirements for media systems and structures. Resolutions and image formats. Analog film technology, history, production. Film archiving, duplicating and film editing. Color spaces, color correction and color space transformation. Compression method (JPEG 2000), data container (DCI, MXF). Projection in 2D and 3D technology.
Studio-Planung in the 6th semester
Analysis of requirements for broadcast studios. Conception and implementation. Climatic loads, bearing loads, accessibility. UPS, backup strategies, redundancy of equipment systems. High availability requirements, data security, data management. System lists, cable diagrams, wire lists. Metrological inspection of installed audio or video equipment.
