Welcome to Anhalt University. We are happy that you are interested in pursuing your studies at our University. Please find below all Information needed to prepare your exchange semester.

Please read the general information for international students as well.

  • Application for ERASMUS+ Incoming Students

    The following instructions only apply to ERASMUS students wishing to study at the Anhalt University as non-Degree exchange students:

    After you have been nominated by your university for studying abroad at HS Anhalt, you will receive additional Information on how to register with our University via mail.

    The deadlines for submitting your application via SSC Portal are:

    30.06. for the coming winter semester
    15.12. for the upcoming summer semester 

    After finishing your application and submitting additional documents, you will receive your admission letter.
    In the meantime, please ask your home university about completing the Online Learning Agreement (OLA 3.0)

  • Erasmus+ course catalogue for exchange students

    Here you will find an overview of all modules offered at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in English Language. These courses can be attended during an Erasmus study stay at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.*

    * Please note that the selection is preliminary and the modules actually offered are subject to change or certain courses cannot be attended by exchange students!

  • German language course A1

    A German language course A1 will be offered with 2h/week during the semester (total 30h for 2ECTS, no grades). An intensive German course depends on the number of participants – a minimum of 5 students is required in order for a course to be held.

  • additional offer / language center: TOEIC® - Test

    Have you ever thought about taking a language test, and receiving a certificate of achievement according the CEFR Levels for English?

     The Language Center (SPZ) in Anhalt University is a registered Test Center for ETS TOEIC.

    What we have to offer:

    • no-cost prep course on MOODLE (12 weeks; self-studying; weekly assignments; practice on sample tests; no video meetings)
    • ​appointments for online language testing sessions (on-site in Dessau, Köthen, Bernburg)
    • feedback on your speaking and writing abilities prior to the test


    We run the following test formats (and current fees):

    • Listening & Reading (L&R): 100 EUR
    • 4-Skills (L&R + Speaking & Writing): 185 EUR
    • the test cannot be failed; your achievement may range from A1 to C2


    Hint: ​Exchange students will receive 5 ECTS for sucessfully completing the test. The credits will be added to your transcript of records 

    If you want to take a TOEIC test and attend the prep course on MOODLE, please contact our languages centre by email for an enrollment in the MOODLE course.   • Erasmus+ Online Learning Agreement (OLA 3.0)

    Before coming to our University, you need a fully signed Learning Agreement (you, your study coordinator, study coordinator at our University. All students coming under Erasmus+ programme are supposed to use the Learning Agreement provided by the EU. (OLA via www.learning-agreement.eu )

    Depending on the study program it must be signed by different Professors. At step 3 of your OLA, they must be added as "responsible person at receiving institution":

  • Accommodation / Dormitory

    Student dormitories on campus are being run by Studentenwerk Halle You can find all available dormitories under "Studentisches Wohnen" (Dessau, Köthen, Bernburg)

    1. Architecture / Design: Dessau
    2. Electrical Engineering / Photovoltaics / Biotechnology: Koethen
    3. Business Studies / Economics / Agriculture: Bernburg

    Rental property explanation: (Einzelapartment = single bed room; Einzelzimmer Wohngemeinschaft = single bed room with shared social rooms (kitchen, bathroom)

    Available choices: “Alle……” means: no specific dormitory (all available rooms in all dormitories)- University: “Hochschule Anhalt (FH) – either Koethen, Dessau or Bernburg) – depending on your study location!

    Moving in: start of lectures:
    spring/summer semester April 1st
    fall/winter semester October 1st
    >> please plan ahead!-

    Number of Terms: 1 Term = 1 Semester

    Student accommodation is limited – please apply as early as possible! Confirmation for accommodation will be sent via email from Studentenwerk Halle. So please check your mails regularly!

  • Visa / registration office

    Option 1:

    Students from EU (including Switzerland) don't need visa and don't need to apply for a residence permit.

    Option 2:

    Students coming from non-EU countries please follow the step described in "Residence permit (students from non-EU countries)"

    IMPORTANT: Depending on your home country and citizenship, you might be allowed to enter Germany without a visa. Please check this page for a visa-check: https://visa.diplo.de/en/index.html#/vib/schnelltest

    If the test says, that you do not requirie a visa and you are planning to stay in Germany for more than three months (90 days), you can apply for residence permit at the local foreigners office (Dessau, Anhalt Bitterfeld for Köthen and Salzlandkreis for Bernburg)  Please read here for more information or consult the International Office at our Unviersity: https://www.daad.de/en/study-and-research-in-germany/plan-your-studies/visas/ 

    If you want to work in Germany, you need a work visa or residence permit. Therefore, if you want to start working directly after your arrival, you should get a work visa before coming to Germany.

    ALL STUDENTS:

    Each student must register at the local registration offices in Bernburg, Köthen or Dessau (please find info on location and opening Hours here ("Registration Office")

    BUDDY:

    Other students from our BUDDY program can help you with appointments. A personal Buddy will contact you via mail before lectures are starting!

  • Health insurance

    If you have a valid European student health insurance, your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is sufficient for general health services (including primary care such as phycician and dentist).

    Please keep in mind that the EHIC does not cover repatriation costs. An additional repatriation insurance is not neccessary but recommended!

    If you come from an EU or EEA country, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Tunisia or the United Kingdom, then you are already insured in your home country and cannot take out insurance in Germany. In that case you have to contact a local health insurerer in Germany such as AOK, TK, DAK, BARMER, BKK, etc and ask them to confirm that you are exempt from registering fot the German statutory health insurance.

    Please don't forget to bring your EHIC with you. During online enrolment, you have to upload a copy of your health insurance card (EHIC) to our SSC Portal.

    Important note: If you take up employment or self-employment alongside your studies, you must insure yourself in Germany.

    Erasmus+ students coming from our Partner Universities in Albania, Kazakhstan, Kosovo or Ukraine (KA107) please follow those steps to apply for German Student Health insurance after your arrival.

  • Enrolment at our University

    Registering at our University as an exchange student requires a payment for student union membership fee (90€) & "Studentenschaftsbeitrag" = student body contribution (6€). No other fees apply!

    Total: 96€ per semester. Our SSC will inform you, when and how to transfer the fee. For reference please see: https://www.hs-anhalt.de/en/study/paths-to-university/enrollment.html

  • Bank account

    EU-students must not open a German bank account. You can use your EU bank account, credit cards or bring enough cash to cover your living expenses for the duration of your stay.

    Erasmus+ students coming from our Partner Universities in Albania, Kazakhstan, Kosovo or Ukraine (KA171) must open a German bank account in order to receive their Erasmus+ grant.

  • Erasmus+ Arrival Attestation

    Erasmus+ arrival attestations will be signed by Erasmus+ coordinator Christian Lippold. Please contact him via erasmus(at)hs-anhalt.de

  • Public TV and radio fee (Rundfunkbeitrag)

    International students living in their own flats, in shared flats (Wohngemeinschaft/WG) or student residence halls need to pay a contribution towards using the provisions of German public TV and radio broadcasters (This includes the public TV stations ARD and ZDF as well as the national public radio broadcaster Deutschlandradio). This fee is deducted per household. If you share bathroom and kitchen in your student residence or you share a flat with others, only one of you will receive the invoice and is responsible for paying the fee.

  • Erasmus+ Confirmation of Stay

    If you are here within the Erasmus+ program, your Erasmus coordinator will ask you for a "confirmation of stay". Confirmations can only be signed at the end of your stay and are issued by ERASMUS-coordinator Christian Lippold. Please contact him via erasmus(at)hs-anhalt.de
