The degree program
Nutrition plays a central role in the development and treatment of various diseases. Therefore, the inclusion of nutrition therapy in an overall concept of treatment is essential. This career-integrated bachelor's degree program addresses this topic and enables students to meet these challenges.
The bachelor’s degree program in Nutrition Therapy primarily aims to further qualify individuals from various health professions to be able to work in a nutrition therapy capacity.
To achieve this, the program provides the knowledge and skills required for use in nutrition therapy with a focus on various illnesses and cohorts. Based on the knowledge gained from pathophysiology, nutrition science and the psychology of nutrition, students will be able to systematically identify malnutrition and poor diets as well as diseases requiring special forms of nutrition and to treat them competently. Ethical, social, economic and health policy requirements are also covered.
With their bachelor's degree in Nutrition Therapy (B.Sc.), students will become interdisciplinary professionals in various areas of professional application and science and will be able to work in a wide variety of sectors focused on nutrition therapy. In addition, this degree provides the general prerequisites for starting a master's degree program.

Modules
The degree program is module based and consists of compulsory and elective modules. A module is a content-related course in which students are required to take an examination or submit some other type of verifiable coursework. In addition to the compulsory modules, elective modules with a certain number of credits must also be completed.
The number of credits per module depends on the average workload involved for the respective module. The workload includes independent study, participating in classes (on campus) and online seminars, preparing and following up on classes, preparing for examinations as well as completing course and assessed work, including lab/pool classes.
The normal program length is seven semesters. In six semesters, students will have completed a total of 25 compulsory modules as well as four elective modules, which are selected from a pool of elective modules. The seventh semester is reserved for the preparation and defense of the bachelor's thesis.
Students will complete compulsory and elective modules according to the curriculum (see Appendix 4 of the Program and Examination Regulations). The curriculum includes 5 modules per semester. However, individual curriculum changes are possible. Contact the Degree Program Coordinator concerning this issue.
The module description handbook and the Program and Examination Regulations can be found on the right hand bottom of the 'Overview' page and can be downloaded as PDF file.

Program sequence
This is a career-integrated degree program. Such a degree program offers flexible learning times and is therefore easy to combine with professional activities. In addition, students are able to learn at home.
Students are provided with digital learning materials for the degree program (online via Moodle) allowing them to structure their independent study phases and to optimize their examination preparation. https://moodle.hs-anhalt.de/ In addition, meetings are offered which take place in the form of on-campus classes at Anhalt University in Bernburg and/or as online seminars. In these meetings, students will have the opportunity to interact with the lecturers and other students, to ask questions and to consolidate and expand their knowledge.
Depending on the module, 12 to 18 hours are included for meetings in the curriculum. As a rule, there is one weekend seminar (Friday/Saturday) per module or online seminars throughout the semester. The meeting dates for each semester will be published in advance via the program schedule in the Anhalt University’s intranet.
Throughout the program, students will receive individual support from the Degree Program Coordinator. The Degree Program Coordinator is the first point of contact for all non-subject-related questions and the person who coordinates the cooperation between lecturers and students. The lecturers responsible for individual modules provide content-related support.
All modules conclude with an examination in the form of written examinations, oral examinations or term papers and/or presentations. Examinations are taken at the end of each semester during the examination week. The exact examination dates will be published in advance via the examination schedule in the Anhalt University’s intranet.
Classes and corresponding examinations are offered on an annual basis. Students may begin their program in the summer or winter semester, starting on April 1 or October 1 of each year.

Trial course in Moodle
This course will give you an insight into the Moodle learning platform and possible structures of Moodle courses, show you how individual sections can be structured and which elements are used to develop the module content. In parallel, you can already familiarize yourself with individual functionalities of the learning platform.
Workload:
Each module in the degree program has a certain amount of work, the so-called workload, which is mapped out in the academic schedule via the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), also called credit points (CP). Here, 1 CP corresponds to 30 hours of work. Accordingly, a module with 5 CP has a workload of 150 hours. To give you a better idea of the amount of material this corresponds to, we have arranged the trial course in such a way that it is equivalent to a module with a workload of 150 hours (5 CP).Currently, the course corresponds to a workload of 115 hours (as of May 25, 2022) and is still under development.
If you are interested in this course offering, please contact Stefanie Wehner by email: stefanie.wehner(at)hs-anhalt.de

Flexible study model
We give students the opportunity to complete the career-integrated bachelor's degree program in Nutrition Therapy in their own time. Instead of the standard 5 modules per semester, students can take fewer modules and complete them in the usual manner during the examination week.
An example curriculum of a Flexible Study Model offers students the possibility of completing the bachelor's degree program in 12 semesters instead of 7.We recommend the following program sequence when extending your program: Example of a Flexible Study Model. In general, we recommend the given schedule. You can make individual changes, e.g. to the number of modules per semester, but keep in mind that the modules are offered only once a year, either in the summer or winter semester.
For more information about the Flexible Study Model, please contact the Degree Program Coordinator by email.
-
Studium einzelner Module
Weitere Informationen finden Sie in unserer Gebührenregelung.
-
Attendance phases
The independent study period guided by the provided learning materials is supplemented by classes on campus and/or online seminars. Students will be invited to attend either one weekend seminar (Friday/Saturday) per module or various online seminars scheduled throughout the semester. The dates will be announced in advance via the schedule in the “Orga” course of the degree program via the learning platform Moodle, so that students can fit them in around their work commitments. Students following the prescribed curriculum will attend a maximum of 5 seminar weekends (5x2 days) or several online seminars per semester.
Attendance at individual meetings is not mandatory. However, we recommend participation because the personal exchange between students and lecturer facilitates both the clarification of questions as well as the consolidation and enhancement of knowledge. These meetings offer a great addition over and above the printed material and offer you the opportunity to apply your acquired knowledge.
Students will have to attend Anhalt University for a maximum of 6 days per semester to participate in the examinations. The learning material for each module is the foundation for passing the examinations. Only one examination per day is scheduled for modules offered in that semester during the examination week. The goal is to schedule the examinations on consecutive days to keep the use of vacation days as low as possible.
The scheduling of the examination week for the winter semester is one week in March and for the examination week of the summer semester one week in September. -
Leave of absence (vacation semester)
As a student of a career-integrated degree program you have the option to apply for a leave of absence (vacation semester). The application for a leave of absence must be submitted to the Student Service Center (SSC) by February 15 (for the summer semester) or August 15 (for the winter semester) at the latest. https://service.asa.hs-anhalt.de/qisserver/asa-info/formulare/bernburg/A-Beurlaubung.pdf During a vacation semester, students do not have to pay the administrative fee. In addition, students who have been granted a leave of absence are not allowed to take examinations or submit other work for their degree programs during their vacation semester. However, students will be allowed to resit examinations.
