• Degree program modules

  The degree program is module based. A module is a content-related class in which students are required to take an examination or submit some other type of verifiable coursework. In addition to the compulsory modules, elective modules with a certain number of credits must also be completed. The number of credits depends on the average amount of work involved for the respective module. The workload includes independent study, participating in consultations (on campus or through webinars), preparing and following up on consultations, preparing examinations and completing course and assessed work, including lab/pool classes.

  The normal program length is five semesters. In four semesters, students will complete a total of 17 compulsory modules as well as three elective modules selected from a catalogue of elective modules. The fifth semester is reserved for the preparation and defense of the master’s thesis.

  Students will complete compulsory and elective modules following the curriculum (see Appendix 4 of the Program and Examination Regulations). The curriculum includes 4-5 modules per semester.For more information, please contact the Degree Program Coordinator by email.

• Program sequence

  This is a career-integrated degree program, which offers flexible learning periods and can therefore be easily combined with professional activities. In addition, students are able to learn at home.

  You will be provided with learning materials for the degree program (online via Moodle) allowing you to structure your independent study phases and optimize your examination preparation. https://moodle.hs-anhalt.de/ In addition, there are consultations. In these meetings, you will have the opportunity to interact with the lecturers and other students, to ask questions, and to consolidate and expand your knowledge.

  Depending on the module, 12 to 16 consultation hours are included in the curriculum. The consultations are offered either as on-campus classes (Bernburg) and/or as webinars. The on-campus classes take place on weekends (Friday/Saturday) and the online seminars usually take place in the evening hours or on weekends. The consultation dates for each semester will be published in advance via the program schedule in the Anhalt University’s intranet.

  Throughout the program, students will receive individual support from the Degree Program Coordinator. The Degree Program Coordinator is the first point of contact for all non-subject-related questions and the person who coordinates cooperation between lecturers and students. The lecturers responsible for individual modules provide content-related support.

  All modules conclude with an examination in the form of written examinations, oral examinations or term papers and/or presentations. Examinations are taken at the end of each semester during the examination week. The exact examination dates will be published in advance via the examination schedule in the Anhalt University’s intranet.

  Classes and corresponding examinations are offered on an annual basis. Students can begin their program either in the summer or winter semester, starting on April 1 or October 1 of each year.

• Flexible study model

  We provide students with the opportunity to complete the career-integrated master's degree program in Nutrition Therapy in their own time. Instead of the standard 4 modules per semester, students can take fewer modules and complete them in the usual manner during the examination week.

• Studying individual modules

  You have the option to take individual modules without enrollment and to take the exams if you wish. The costs are calculated individually per module. For more information, please see our Gebührenregelung (fee schedule, only in German). In addition, we also offer the module program “Nutritional Psychology”.

• Attendance phases

  The independent study period guided by the learning materials is supplemented by consultations (on-campus classes and/or webinars). On-campus classes take place on weekends (Friday/Saturday) and there is one attendance weekend per module. Consultations take place throughout the semester. Webinars are usually held in the evening hours and are also spread throughout the semester. The dates will be announced in advance via the schedule in the “Orga” course of the degree program via the learning platform Moodle, so that students can fit them in around their work commitments.

  Attendance at individual consultations is only mandatory on a few occasions. However, we recommend participation as the personal exchange between students and lecturer facilitates not only the clarification of questions but also the consolidation and enhancement of knowledge. The consultations are a great addition over and above the printed materials and offer you the opportunity to apply your acquired knowledge. Attendance is compulsory if the elective module “Kommunikationstechniken und Rhetorik” is chosen.

  The degree program offers mainly digital examinations, so your attendance on campus is usually not required for these.

• Leave of absence (vacation semester)

  You can request one or more vacation semesters. The application for a leave of absence must be submitted to the Student Service Center (SSC) by February 15 (for the summer semester) or August 15 (for the winter semester) at the latest. Tuition fees are waived for a semester off. In addition, students who have been granted a leave of absence (vacation semester) are not allowed to take examinations or submit other work for their degree programs. However, students will be allowed to resit examinations.

• Funding opportunities

  This career-integrated degree program requires a fee of €1,500 per semester. Fees include all digital learning materials, participation in the consultations in form of webinars and on-campus classes, examinations, library fees, subject-specific and organizational support as well as administration costs. Additional costs for travel and overnight accommodation are required.

  You can deduct expenses for continuing education programs in your tax returns as income-related expenses. You can also deduct costs such as semester fees, learning materials, and travel expenses etc.

• Degree program requirements

  Admission requirements are a qualified degree in nutrition-related, health-related or comparable studies at a college or university with a standard period of study of at least 3 years and vocational training in nursing or a therapeutic field with at least one year of professional experience

  Applicants who have not completed their school education or their university degree at a German-speaking institution must provide evidence of sufficient knowledge of the German language. Sufficient are Test DaF level 4xTDN 4 or comparable certificates (decision on a case-by-case basis).

• Application process and documents

  The following steps are necessary for a successful application to the career-integrated master’s degree program in Nutrition Therapy:

  Step 1: Register online in the SSC Applicant and Student Portal

  First register in our SSC Applicant and Student Portal. You will then receive your access data by email. Please follow the instructions to activate your access.

  Step 2: Filling in and sending the application form

  Select your degree program in the SSC Applicant and Student Portal. Complete your personal details, upload your application documents and submit your application online.

  Documents required for a complete application:

  • certified copy of the certificate of your first degree (for non-German degrees: a certified translation of the degree certificate is required) OR alternatively current ungraded assessment and final thesis approva
  • letter of motivation (describing why you are choosing this program)*
  • CV (tabular form)
  • copy of national identity card or passport (two-sided)
  • proof of professional activities*
  • certificate of deregistration

  In addition:

  • if applicable, proof of language proficiency*

  You can apply to the master’s degree program in Nutrition Therapy either for the winter semester, starting on October 1, or for the summer semester, starting on April 1 of each year.

• Tuition fees

  There is a fee for this degree program. The tuition fee is €1,500 per semester. There are no additional costs for digital learning materials, attending the consultations, the examinations and supervision by the Degree Program Coordinator.

  In addition, applicants should budget in expenses for food and accommodation during attendance and examination days and, if applicable, for printing learning materials as well as travel costs.

• Crediting previous assessed coursework

  It is possible to receive credits for contents from previous degree programs (at the same level, in accordance with the German Qualifications Framework, www.kmk.org/fileadmin/Dateien/veroeffentlichungen_beschluesse/2012/2012_11_15-DQR-Anl_GemeinsamerBeschluss.pdf) or for comprehensive continuing education programs.

  The application for credit transfer can only be submitted after enrollment. The application must be submitted to the Degree Program Coordinator at the beginning of the respective semester, at the latest by the end of the first month of the semester.

Master in Nutrition Therapy

• Orientation event

  An orientation event for all new students of the career-integrated master's degree program in Nutrition Therapy will take place at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences at the beginning of each semester. During this event, you can meet your fellow students and the Degree Program Coordinator and will receive a lot of information about the organization and sequence of the degree program.

  Applicants will receive the schedule for the orientation event together with an invitation by email.

  The orientation event for the winter semester 2023/24 will take place on to be decided.

• Consultations

  Consultations for each module take place as on-campus classes on weekends (Friday/Saturday) and/or online seminars. As a rule, the online seminars usually start in the early evening. The on-campus classes begin on Friday at around noon and end on Saturday afternoon.

  Consultations take place throughout the semester. The dates of the consultations are compiled in a schedule, which you can find in the “Orga” course of the degree program, to which you will gain access via the learning platform Moodle after enrollment.

  The consultations are generally not compulsory, although participation is recommended. The online seminars are usually recorded and made available via the Moodle platform in compliance with data protection regulations. Attendance is compulsory if the elective module “Kommunikationstechniken und Rhetorik” is chosen.

• Examinations

  The examination period takes place at the end of the semester over one week in March (winter semester) or over one week in September (summer semester). The Degree Program Coordinator will announce the scheduled examination weeks well in advance to enable students to make arrangements. The examination dates can be found on the Moodle platform.

  Depending on the module, examinations may include written examinations, oral examinations, term papers and presentations. The examination for each module is offered once a year in the semester in which the module is scheduled. Students who fail an examination have a total of three attempts to pass any given examination.

  Students only have to take the examinations they register for. Binding registration for an examination takes place via the His-Qis portal.
