General information about studies and the Anhalt University
-
What is the difference between a college and a university study program?
The Anhalt University is a college for applied sciences and has similarities and differences in its setting compared to a university.
One difference is the duration of study. The duration of a bachelor's degree at a college usually lasts one semester longer than at a university. This is due to the practical semester that you have to complete at a college.
To study at a university, you need the general university entrance qualification or the subject-specific university entrance qualification. To study at a college, you only need the advanced technical college entrance qualification.
The academic degrees "Bachelor" and "Master" are equivalent. It is independent whether it was acquired at a university or a college. However, studies at a college are more practice-oriented than at a university. This includes not only the practical semester, but also the intensive contacts to the regional economy and local institutions. Likewise, unlike their university colleagues, professors at a college must have worked in practice for at least three years.
