Research and applications of airborne FTIR spectroscopy for the environment

Imaging thermal remote sensing plays an increasing role for current and future earth observations which is mainly driven by climate change and requirements for climate adaption of landscapes, urban areas and to improve resource efficiency. Beside research on broad band thermal infrared observations, imaging hyperspectral thermal remote sensing using narrow band observations are unexplored in environmental sciences. A novel technology for hyperspectral remote sensing of the long-wave infrared is provided by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Since summer 2024 an imaging airborne FTIR sensor (Telops Hyper-Cam Airborne Mini/ Hyper-Cam) is available for environmental research at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany (funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) – 514067990). The workshop will play a key role for initiating research (proposal writing and scientific publication) related to imaging airborne FTIR for environmental sensing and monitoring.
