The degree program in Electrical and Computer Engineering allows you to choose one out of three major fields of study. Depending on which major field you decide for, your curriculum will vary. You can find detailed information about your curriculum here.

Frequently asked questions
What are the deadlines for application and when does the semester start?
The application deadline for winter-semester is July 15th, and the semester starts on or around October 1st. For summer-semester the dealine is January 15th and the semester starts on or around April 1st. Please note: the visa-application can take very long, so do not wait with your application for the last day of the application period.
Can I apply directly or do I have to apply via UniAssist?
You will have to apply via UniAssist. There is only one exception: if you have been accepted into a program at Anhalt University but could not the start in the program, you can apply directly. Please do upload your letter of acceptance.
What are the required documents for the application?
The uni-assist applicant portal will detail this precisely. Please be prepared to upload:
officially certified copy of your first degree
your transcript of records (coursework and assessed work)
evidence of your language proficiency in the English language (e.g. an IELTS test certificate)
your letter of motivation
evidence of professional experience
What are the minimum admission requirements?
a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering,
electronics or a closely related field
a final grade better than the equivalent of 2.4 in German grades
professional experience, ideally more than one year and not only
evidence of proficiency in the English language:
- a test certificate at C1-level in the CEFR, i.e. IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 94 (or better)
- a certificate from your university that the language of instruction was English, ideally your transcript shows one (or more) grades in an English-language course.
Does fulfillment of the minimum requirements guarantee admission?
Unfortunately NO. The program is not very large, we need to restrict the intake of students per semester to a number compatible with our resources.
How do you select your students?
We check the following:
minimum requirements
courses taken in the bachelor's degree program
your motivation and ambitions as stated in your letter of motivation
your professional experience
frequently, we invite our applicants to an interview on Webex to get to know them. Therefore, the impression from the interview is quite important too.
How long does it take from application to admission?
This depends on the number of applicants, but we do try to make sure that all applicants receive notification of the acceptance or rejection one month after the end of the application period, i.e. by mid February for the summer semester or mid August for the winter semester.
What if the visa application takes too long to arrive in time?
There is unfortunately no possibility for deferment due to legal reasons. If you can't arrive in Köthen within two weeks of the start of semester, you might either give back your slot and re-apply via the uni's applicants' portal, or
remain enrolled and join us as fast as you can

How is the program structured?
This master's program is to be studied in full-time and runs over three semesters with the last semester being filled out mostly by working on your master's thesis. The program allows you to choose one major field of studies out of these three options:
Automation Engineering, Communication Engineering and Embedded Systems Engineering.
What is the language of instruction?
This degree program is taught in English.
What is the language that examinations are given in?
That's also English! For students who'd prefer to take an exam in the German language, this is also possible on request.
Are there any tuition fees?
There are two kinds of fees, that you will have to take into consideration:
The Studentenwerk provides a cafeteria, the dormitories and a public transport ticket (bus, rail). For this service, students have to pay a contribution of approx. 275 Euros per semester, even if they don't live in the dormitory.

Are there any stipends available?
The university offers a number of stipends, e.g. Deutschland-Stipendium or STIBET for international students.

Are there jobs opening for teaching or research assistants available?
In principle, yes. There is a great demand for capable students to assist in various projects or courses. However, we can not guarantee jobs for all of our students. The demand depends on whether we have sufficient research grants.
Are there job openings outside the university, e.g. in a company nearby?
Again: In principle, yes. But also: There is a strong fluctuation and neither job offers nor the acceptance of your applications can be guaranteed.
