The Ethics Committee of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences was set up to assess fundamental ethical issues in the scientific community and ethical issues relating to scientific research involving human subjects. This includes basic research, epidemiological research with personal data and research with a therapeutic objective.
For student work in health-related degree programs or in health-related research, examinations of ethical concerns are required before work begins.
The Ethics Committee determines whether such research projects or theses give rise to ethical, scientific or legal concerns. In particular, it examines whether
- all precautions have been taken to minimize the risks to study participants;
- there is an appropriate balance between the benefits and risks of the project;
- the consent of the study participants or their legal representatives is sufficiently papered and
- the implementation of the project complies with the relevant legal provisions, in particular the provisions on data protection.
The Ethics Committee consists of up to seven members. At least four of the members should be members of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences who represent relevant fields of study or contribute specialist expertise. Up to three external persons are also appointed to the committee.
The voting members of the Ethics Committee are appointed by the Senate on the recommendation of the Board of Management for a term of office of four years. Membership of the Ethics Committee is honorary.
