The Competence Network for Applied and Transfer-Oriented Research (KAT) is a joint initiative of the universities in the state of Saxony-Anhalt and is being gradually expanded with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

KAT is a publicly funded project and sees itself as an important partner for companies and networks in business, academia, and politics. As a link between the universities of Saxony-Anhalt and the regional business community and society, the network is dedicated in particular to the following areas of activity:
- Continuing its intensive collaboration with regional small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in the planning and implementation of joint research projects,
- Maintaining ongoing internal communication within the network and keeping the universities’ range of specialized services up to date,
- Maintaining and expanding the range of services offered by the KAT network (research and development work, consulting services, continuing education, personnel exchange, project development, etc.),
- Utilizing “low-threshold transfer” to establish and expand research and development partnerships with companies,
- Expanding networking efforts with the working groups of the clusters and key markets in the state of Saxony-Anhalt,
- Supporting startup activities at universities,
- Continuing KAT’s public relations efforts,
- Securing and commercializing the results of applied research and development work, for example through intellectual property rights.
Research data management (RDM) is now an essential component of good scientific practice. The requirements for the professional and transparent handling of research data are constantly increasing. This development is being driven by guidelines from funding organizations such as the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the European Commission, as well as by the establishment of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and international initiatives within the framework of Open Science.
To support you in meeting these requirements, we are currently expanding our services. Soon, you will find comprehensive information here, along with consulting and training opportunities for efficient and sustainable data management.

Centers of Excellence
The substantial capabilities at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences for applied research and development in the fields of Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Food Technology, Ecotrophology, and Agriculture form the foundation for the establishment and development of the Life Sciences Center of Excellence as part of KAT.
