Independent right to award doctorates at universities in Saxony-Anhalt
Since May 2021, universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt have been able to independently award doctoral degrees to their Early career researchers. As one of the first federal states, Saxony-Anhalt is leading the way with its own right to award doctorates for UAS, thereby strengthening research and science at the state's universities. Various doctoral centers have been set up for this purpose. While some doctoral centers are located exclusively at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, others work together with partner universities in Saxony-Anhalt. A cooperative doctorate in collaboration with a university is also still possible.

From September 3–4, 2026, the universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt will host the inter-university summer school “Launching Your Career After Your Ph.D.” Featuring practical workshops on career entry, leadership skills, and personal branding, as well as plenty of opportunities for discussion and networking—ideal for doctoral students in the advanced stages of their studies.
