Assessment tests (FSP)
The assessment test marks the end of your studies at the Studienkolleg. You can only take part in this examination if you have previously attended the courses at the Studienkolleg. It takes place twice a year, in June and December.
You must take a written examination in three subjects. An oral examination will take place if the difference between your previous grade and your examination grade is greater than or equal to 2. You will receive detailed information about admission to the examination as well as the content and procedure of the examination from your course supervisors or subject teachers.
With an FSP certificate, you can apply to study at any college or university in Germany. When choosing a course of study, however, you must base your decision on the course you attended.

DSH examination
The DSH takes place twice per academic year: in December and in June. You will receive detailed information on the time and place of the examination with your invitation.
The DSH is divided into a written and an oral part. The written part of the exam comprises the following sections:
- Understanding and processing a listening text,
- Understanding and processing a reading text,
- text production according to specifications (writing),
- Understanding and processing scientific language structures (grammar).
There are 240 minutes of working time available for this. The topics in the individual sections may differ. Grammar always relates to the reading text. The topic of text production relates to the listening text.
The oral examination lasts 20 minutes. There is an additional 20 minutes of preparation time.
Three grades are awarded.
- DSH 1: is awarded if you have fulfilled a total of 57% of the examination requirements. This grade corresponds to level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This is where the universities decide whether you will be admitted to a selected degree program.
- DSH 2: is awarded if you have fulfilled a total of 67% of the examination requirements. This grade is largely equivalent to level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. With this certificate, you prove that your language skills are sufficient for studying in Germany. You can apply to all German universities.
- DSH 3: is awarded if you have fulfilled a total of 82% of the examination requirements. This grade corresponds fully to level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. You can apply to all German universities with this certificate.
These requirements must be met in both parts of the examination, both oral and written, otherwise the lower grade will be awarded.
In principle, it is not only the pure understanding of texts that is examined. You must also be able to process information in the way that is usual in university.
Listening
The text has a presentation length of 15 to 20 minutes. It will be presented twice. After the first presentation, you will be given the tasks.
The text itself should not require any specialist knowledge and should correspond to a lecture or presentation in terms of structure and language. The tasks are basically dependent on the structure of the text. You should understand the content, but also be able to recognize the structure of the text and lines of argumentation.
The use of a monolingual dictionary is permitted.
The working time is 50 minutes.
Reading
In terms of content, structure and language of instruction, the text should be study-related, science-oriented and as authentic as possible, but should not require any special subject knowledge (if necessary, topics from previous lessons should be taken up).
The tasks are aimed at engaging with the text, e.g. presenting the structure of the argument, explaining a passage in the text or establishing content-related relationships between pieces of information.
The use of a monolingual dictionary is permitted.
The working time is 70 minutes.
Writing
The aim is a text of about 250 words, which you should write according to concrete specifications (graphics, diagrams, quotations, keyword lists, etc.). It is primarily about 1. describing, comparing, citing examples and 2. arguing, commenting, evaluating.
It should not be a free essay.
The use of a monolingual dictionary is permitted.
The working time is 70 minutes.
Grammar
Please read the specific tasks in the sample examination.
You will work without permitted supplementary material.
The working time is 20 minutes.
The tasks in the oral examination are similar to those for writing. However, you should demonstrate that you are able to hold a conversation relevant to your studies. This includes understanding oral questions, formulating correct answers in terms of content, lexis, grammar and phonetics and asking for missing information.
The certificate of the DSH examination taken at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is recognized by all universities and colleges in Germany.
