Free Mover - your self-organized study stay abroad
Freemovers are students who organize and finance their studies abroad themselves. The stay does not take place via one of Anhalt University's partnership programs. This is the case, for example, if a university/college you would like to study at is not a partner of the HS-Anhalt partner.
In principle, all students can apply as a freemover at a foreign university of their choice, but it is important for the organization to prepare and make contact early - about twelve months before the desired start of the stay. This way you can be sure that all deadlines at the university of your choice can be met.
- free choice of university
- free choice of the period of stay
Independent organization of the stay, i.e.
- Selection of the desired university
- making contact
- Preparing and sending the application documents
- Finding accommodation on site
- Independent financing of the stay (tuition fees, if applicable) must be paid independently
As a freemover, you can also apply for scholarships apply!
All mobilities of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences are recorded in the database of the International Office for statistical purposes. Therefore, please register your freemover mobility by e-mail to: internationaloffice@hs-anhalt.de
- Matriculation number
- University of choice
- Planned period of stay
Before mobility
Who can apply for real costs?
Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, or students traveling with child(ren) can apply to the NA DAAD for real costs for stays abroad and for preparatory trips instead of the lump-sum special funding "fewer opportunities". The preparatory trip allows you to explore the circumstances on site in preparation for an already approved mobility (low-barrier housing, childcare, conditions on campus, local public transport, etc.). In addition, a maximum of one accompanying person can be funded as an assistant during the trip.

Tutorial access to courses (pdf).
The promotion of language skills and language acquisition is an important goal of the Erasmus+ program. During their stay abroad, Erasmus+ beneficiaries are supported in learning and improving their working and/or national language. The European Commission provides the Online Language Support platform (OLS) for this purpose.
Online Language Support (OLS)
The Online Language Support (OLS) system includes a placement test (before mobility) and a language course (at any time during mobility). OLS is available in 28 languages of instruction in the European Union*. The placement test is mandatory for all participants in the E+ program!

Legally insured?
The statutory health insurance covers your stay abroad in Europe, you only have to pay the monthly fee. Please note that special health services (IGEL services), for which additional costs are incurred in Germany, also cost extra abroad. However, most healthcare services are free of charge and are settled directly between the European countries and the insurers. This includes, for example, GP, gynecology, hospital emergencies, dentist, etc.
The statutory health insurance card(EHIC: European Health Insurance Card) also works in other European countries. Please don't forget to pack it in your travel documents!
Privately insured?
Please contact your private health insurance company yourself and ask whether study visits to EU/non-EU countries are covered. An insurance confirmation should be available in English, cover the exact period of stay and explicitly include the keyword "study abroad". International travel insurance is generally NOT sufficient for enrollment abroad!
optional: accident & personal liability insurance:
You can take out additional accident and personal liability insurance in both cases, but this is not compulsory. If you want to be on the safe side, please take a look at the DAAD student insurance for study abroad, which covers accident and personal liability (38€ / month): https://www.daad.de/de/im-ausland-studieren-forschen-lehren/stipendien-finanzierung/daad-versicherungen/versicherung-im-ausland/
Please note: This offer is only a supplementary insurance and does not replace your statutory health insurance!
- look for a place in a hall of residence as early as possible
- follow the tips and recommendations of the partner university
- Avoid transferring money abroad in advance (risk of scams! Residence offers arranged by partner universities are usually safe)
- make contact with the local ESN(Erasmus Student Network)
- you may find better offers if you first stay in a hostel / AirBnB and look around locally or make contacts
ThisERASMUS+ Checklistwill help you prepare for your stay abroad.
Everything done? Are you now waiting for confirmation from the partner university? Find out about entry requirements (visa if necessary), accommodation and insurance. Compare different insurance offers for international insurance. Health insurance is compulsory for study visits. We also recommend accident and personal liability insurance.
