On December 4, 2025, the University Library on Campus Bernburg cordially invites you to a guided tour through the current exhibition "Simply GEORGES - With a view of the environment and nature" by the artist Werner Georges. It is a special opportunity to discover the diverse works with the artist himself and learn more about his working methods and the stories behind the pictures. The event starts at 14:30 and registration is requested.
The diversity and beauty of nature, but also destructive changes and damage characterize the paintings of the Mosigkau artist. With his works, the former Dessau town planner aims to stimulate reflection. He uses various techniques, including acrylic and oil paintings as well as the so-called "Quadrolinos", a special blend of drawing and collage that he has developed over many years. Motifs such as withered soil, dead trees or incorporated elements such as straw or tree bark refer to environmental changes and make the effects of human activity visible.
Werner Georges comes from Reppichau (Anhalt) and has been interested in landscape, nature and artistic forms of expression since his childhood. After studying architecture, he worked for many years as an urban planner, including at the office of the city architect in Dessau and later at the Bauhaus Dessau. From 1990 to 2014, he headed the urban planning department in Köthen (Anhalt) before devoting more time to painting. International experiences - such as a working stay in Vietnam - also shaped his artistic development. His works are the result of experiences, impressions and a keen eye for changes in the environment. He finds many of his motifs in the immediate vicinity of his home in Dessau-Mosigkau.
