On Friday, June 20, 2025, the President of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Jörg Bagdahn, and Sarvarkhan Buzrukhonov, the Uzbek Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, sealed a groundbreaking cooperation agreement in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. The signing took place in Magdeburg in the presence of the President of the state parliament, Dr. Gunnar Schellenberger. The aim is to jointly establish a German University of Applied Sciences in Uzbekistan. Anhalt University of Applied Sciences will assume academic responsibility on the German side.
Deputy Minister Buzrukhonov visited Campus Köthen with a delegation before the contract was signed. The focus was on innovative research projects in engineering and computer science. The guests were given an insight into current work on metallic 3D printing, the recycling of lithium-ion batteries, the digital analysis of soccer matches and the development of IT media systems for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A special highlight was the live broadcast of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the USA, where students from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences are currently working in cooperation with the company "Plan2Event".
Anhalt University of Applied Sciences will coordinate the establishment of the new university in Uzbekistan from the German side in the academic field and contribute its many years of experience in the field of practice-oriented higher education. The project is supported by the governments of both countries. A joint working group will be set up to prepare the necessary steps for the establishment of the university. There are also plans to involve other universities from Germany and Uzbekistan.
The signing of this agreement marks the beginning of a forward-looking project. Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is looking forward to the cooperation with its partners in Uzbekistan with great confidence.
