Nature conservation does not stop at national borders. Global environmental change, international agreements and European conservation regulations increasingly shape professional practice. An international perspective is therefore firmly embedded in the Master’s programme in Nature Conservation and Landscape Planning.
European and international aspects are integrated into numerous courses. These include European nature conservation legislation and Natura 2000 as well as global challenges relating to biodiversity and environmental protection.
The programme’s teaching staff have extensive international collaborations and research networks. This provides students with opportunities to participate in international research and development projects, work in international teams, complete their Master’s theses abroad or spend a semester at a partner university.
International field trips are a particular feature of the programme. Regular excursions take students, for example, to Slovenia, including Triglav National Park, and to the White Carpathians in the Czech Republic. These trips provide an opportunity to study different habitats, landscapes and approaches to nature conservation in the field and compare them with conditions in Germany. In addition, field trips to changing destinations outside Europe provide insights into different ecological, societal and conservation contexts.
A particularly strong international connection exists with countries in southern and eastern Africa. Through close cooperation with the international Master’s programme “Sustainable Land Management and Conservation” at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, the university maintains collaborations with universities and research institutions in countries including Namibia, Zambia and Kenya. Students of the Master’s programme in Nature Conservation and Landscape Planning can benefit from these international teaching and research collaborations and gain insights into nature conservation and sustainable land management in different ecological, societal and economic contexts.
