Under the motto "Young, colorful and innovative", Anhalt University of Applied Sciences will be presenting a diverse hands-on program at Saxony-Anhalt Day in Bernburg's Wachgasse from 5 to 7 June 2026. A special highlight awaits interested visitors on Saturday: from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, the university invites you to take a river cruise on the Saale. Sven Guttmann, head of the WWF's Middle Elbe offices, will accompany the trip and provide exciting insights into the fascinating floodplain landscapes of the region. Participation in the river cruise is free of charge. The trip starts from the jetty at Wachgasse. Registration is required!

Alluvial landscapes are among the most dynamic and at the same time most endangered ecosystems in Europe. Along the Saale, you will have the opportunity to experience this special natural landscape from the water and understand its diverse functions. Sven Guttmann will discuss various aspects during the trip: from the importance of floodplains for flood protection to current threats such as drought and renaturation projects in the region. The connection between navigation and floodplain protection as well as species protection issues - from beavers to wolves - will also be discussed.
"Alluvial landscapes are fundamentally particularly exciting, dynamic and highly endangered throughout Europe and therefore worth protecting," emphasizes Guttmann. The event is aimed at anyone interested in nature. No prior knowledge is required. The expert emphasizes dialogue and exchange: questions and discussions are expressly encouraged. Depending on the interests of the audience, more in-depth nature conservation topics can also be discussed.
The river cruise takes place on board the Make Science Halle: a converted excursion steamer that serves as a floating laboratory and classroom along the Blue Ribbon of Science on the Saale and Elbe rivers. The Make Science Halle brings science and people together on and along the river. Equipped with modern technologies and a mobile laboratory, it serves as a central location for science communication in Saxony-Anhalt. It will be stopping off in Bernburg for Saxony-Anhalt Day 2026 and will be a special place for science and encounters on Friday, June 5 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Saturday, June 6 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and Sunday morning.

Ten creative workshops on the banks of the Saale
A total of ten creative workshops are waiting to be discovered in Wachgasse. They pick up on the various subject areas of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and invite you to join in. How are new foods created? How is water turned into energy? How do landscape architects work? How can biotechnological processes be represented digitally? We will be exploring these and other questions on the banks of the Saale. We look forward to welcoming you on site.
