Under the motto "Young, colorful and creative", Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is presenting a diverse hands-on program at Saxony-Anhalt Day in Bernburg's Wachgasse from 5 to 7 June 2026. There is also plenty to discover on the outdoor area: The KompetenzGrün project is all about near-natural green spaces, native wild plants and more biodiversity in the city and garden.
"Many people want to do something for nature, but don't know exactly where to start," says Professor Sabine Tischew from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, one of the project managers. "With our offer, we want to show that even small measures, such as a wildflower area in the garden or on the balcony, can make an important contribution to promoting biodiversity." Visitors can find out how to do this in the outdoor area, where they can get to know native wild plants, learn more about regional seed mixtures and get practical tips on how to design gardens, balconies or public green spaces in a natural way. Various pre-grown wild plants vividly demonstrate how diverse and attractive native species can be and the important role they play for insects and other animals.
A special highlight is the hands-on activity: guests can put together their own individual seed mix from regional wild plant seeds and take it home with them free of charge. In this way, the idea of a species-rich green space can be implemented directly in your own garden or on your balcony.
The KompetenzGrün project is a competence center for green infrastructure at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and deals with near-natural greening, the promotion of biodiversity and the use of regional wild plants in urban and peri-urban areas.
Ten creative workshops on the banks of the Saale
A total of ten creative workshops are waiting to be discovered in Wachgasse. They take up the various topics of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and invite visitors to join in. How are new foods created? How is water turned into energy? How do landscape architects work? How can biotechnological processes be represented digitally? We will be exploring these and other questions on the banks of the Saale. We look forward to welcoming you on site.
