Agriculture is more than just farming - it is strategic, promotes and administers. Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Agriculture Sven Schulze and University President Professor Jörg Bagdahn made this clear today. At the Bernburg campus, they signed a cooperation agreement for the dual study option in the bachelor's degree program in Agriculture. The aim is to provide students with practical and academic qualifications for work in the Ministry of Economics, Tourism, Agriculture and Forestry.
Studying Agriculture in direct combination with public institutions opens up completely new perspectives," said Professor Jörg Bagdahn, President of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. The combination of practical teaching and training in the ministry and in the offices for Agriculture can be an asset for the entire agricultural administration. We are delighted to be able to act as a link between the authorities and agricultural businesses."
The increasing demand for qualified specialists in agricultural administration requires new training paths. In addition to lectures at the university, students complete practical phases at the four offices for Agriculture, Land Consolidation and Forestry (ALFF) in Saxony-Anhalt. "The students go through the same course content and are on an equal footing with direct students. They only work at the office during the internship phases and during the lecture-free period," says Bagdahn. The close cooperation with the authorities ensures that they not only acquire sound specialist knowledge, but also contribute this directly to the country's agricultural development. Another advantage: the dual study program leads to a career qualification for the agricultural service. Those who prove themselves have a good chance of being taken on as a civil servant - with long-term prospects and financial security. The seven-semester course combines practical learning with work experience. After an eight-week pre-study internship, the preparatory service begins on October 1, 2025. During their studies, students on the dual study option receive a gross salary of around 1,500 euros per month - plus any family allowances. The state also covers the semester fees.
Minister Sven Schulze said: "Agriculture needs good, well-trained specialists who can make future-proof decisions not only in practice but also in administration. With the dual study program, we are combining the two and creating training that is modern, practical and reliable at the same time. This gives young people real prospects - and our country the skilled workers we need."
